Job Purpose
The Part 145 Training Manager is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of training programmes for all maintenance personnel in compliance with EASA / CAA Part 145 and other regulatory requirements. The role ensures that the organisation's staff are highly skilled, competent, and up to date with the latest industry standards and practices.
The role offers the opportunity for a learning professional to work in the dynamic aviation sector, by utilising their skills to lead on the delivery of high impact training interventions which meet the needs of the organisation and external clients.
Job Accountabilities
Managing Staff

  • Create a positive culture by role modelling and projecting the Training Department’s ethics and values.
  • Develop colleagues with the skills, knowledge and attributes required by the Training Department.
  • Set staff objectives aligned to the organisation’s strategy and departmental goals.
  • Manage and support all training staff.

Training Needs Analysis

  • Act in a consultative capacity to advise internal and external stakeholders / clients on matters pertaining to training needs.
  • Conduct regular training needs analyses (TNA) to identify skill gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Develop colleagues with the skills, knowledge and attributes required by the business which balances practical relevance and academic rigour.
  • Develop individualised training plans to address identified needs.

Training Programme Development

  • Lead on the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality Part 145 compliant training programmes / interventions / courses aligned to the needs of the business / stakeholders / clients.
  • Lead on the development of teaching strategies, materials, pathways and assessments which are inclusive, engaging, and appropriate to the workforce and needs of the business / stakeholders / clients.
  • Lead on the development of training materials for new procedures.
  • Horizon scan aviation / training sector development to adopt best practice and latest innovations.


Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of EASA, CAA, and other relevant aviation regulations.
  • Ensure all training activities and programmes comply with regulatory standards and requirements (Part 145 and relevant standards).
  • Prepare for and support regulatory audits and inspections.

Training Delivery and Management

  • Lead on the delivery of high-quality learning experiences across the range of Part 145 compliant training programmes / courses, ensuring they cater for different learning styles and educational needs.
  • Deliver / contribute to high-quality teaching / instruction across all existing and future training programmes / courses (including apprenticeship programmes).
  • Oversight of assessment processes of employees completing internal training programmes / courses / formal qualifications in accordance with the requirements of the business / qualification awarding bodies / regulatory authorities. Support / assess / monitor delegates working towards qualifications.
  • Implement and manage monitoring and reviewing processes concerning the effectiveness of training programmes and identify areas for improvement in consultation with the Training Manager and relevant stakeholders / subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • Pastoral support to delegates / learners engaged in training programmes / courses (including apprenticeship programmes).
  • Manage the planning and delivery of wrap around training support where required (including apprenticeship programmes).
  • Schedule, organise, manage and provide supplemental training when required by the business.
  • Train new or transferred employees on company paperwork procedures and customer documents and procedures

Examination / Assessment

  • Ensure Part 145 exam procedures are followed.
  • Act as an impartial exams manager as required.
  • Create and maintain competency assessment processes.
  • Oversee assessors for Part 145 training activities.

?Learning Pathways Management

  • Manage Modern Apprenticeships and trainees.
  • Ensure safe and efficient OJT completion

Record Keeping and Documentation

  • Ensure training staff maintain training records which are up-to-date and are readily available for inspection.
  • Ensure training staff maintain accurate records of training in accordance with legislative / regulatory requirements (GDPR / EASA / CAA, etc.), and / or awarding body requirements.

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure assessments of the effectiveness of training programmes through feedback, evaluations, and performance metrics are carried out.
  • Implement improvements based on evaluation outcomes and emerging best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with the Training Department standardisation / QA processes and maintenance of records and other documentation as required in accordance with due process, policies, procedures, regulatory and awarding body requirements.

Safety Management

  • Ensure training staff incorporate safety management principle into training.
  • Ensure training staff implement safety factors in line with CAA / EASA regulations and company policies.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Provide a professional, high-quality, customer led service to internal / stakeholders / clients.
  • Work closely with other departments, including Quality Assurance, Safety, and Human Resources, to ensure alignment of training initiatives with organisational goals.
  • Communicate training objectives, schedules, and outcomes to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Promote the companies Learning Solutions and the Training Department by actively participating and engaging in company activities, including meetings, seminars, trade shows, open days, and engagement with external companies / awarding bodies / training providers / other partner(s) as required.

Resource and Budget Management

  • Manage the Learning Solutions Prestwick Academy departmental budget and allocate resources effectively.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary training materials and equipment.

Commercial Awareness

  • Deliver cost effective quality training to budget.
  • Identify potential training revenue streams.
  • Apply for beneficial government funding or programs.
  • Explore commercial opportunities - building relationships with academic institutions and external stakeholders.

Facility Management

  • Maintain and improve the Learning Solutions Prestwick Academy training facility and resources.

Self-Development

  • Evidence self-development by undertaking Continual Professional Development (CPD).
