Creative New Zealand/New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) Composer-in-Residence 2024
The Creative New Zealand/NZSM Composer-in-Residence is a 10-month position for established composers working in any genre (including sonic arts, jazz composition, soundtrack composition, classical composition, taonga puoro composition, etc) who have a track record of sustained, substantial compositional activity over a period of years.
The position is jointly funded by Creative New Zealand and the NZSM Composer-in-Residence Endowment Fund, with the NZSM acting as host organisation. This position fosters and expands the New Zealand musical landscape by providing an established composer with the opportunity to write full-time for the period of tenure. The Lilburn Residence in Thorndon is normally made available to the Composer-in-Residence for a modest rental.
The selection committee will comprise at least 3 members of the staff of the NZSM, plus one external expert. The committee will base their decision on the artistic standards and track record of the applicant, as evidenced through a CV and portfolio of representative works, as well as the potential of the proposed works for the residency to make a significant contribution to New Zealand music.
