Voluntary opportunity for Sports Therapist to travel and work in to USA in 2020

BACKGROUND

The USA 2020 Challenge will see Ben Smith, Founder of The 401 Challenge, run a marathon in each of the 50 US State capitals as well as cycle between each one. Ben’s aim is to complete the 14,001 miles in 104 days: starting in March 2020 and finishing during National School Sport Week in June 2020. During this epic challenge, with the help of schools, organisations and individuals in the UK, Ben hopes to raise £1 million for the 401 Foundation and Youth Sport Trust, supporting their work to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing.

The Role

As one of two Sports Therapists / Welfare Advisers you will support The USA 2020 Challenge from February 2020 to June 2020. Each Therapist will be based half of the time in the UK and half of the time in USA with responsibilities including:

  • facilitating Ben’s daily recovery using your professional skills
  • responsibility for the USA team’s individual / group welfare, general health / first aid
  • supporting the USA Project Manager with accommodation / logistics / briefing duties
  • reviewing health risks areas and plans / providing daily health briefing
  • managing in-country communication with relevant medical facilities / persons
  • supplying / obtaining massage and medical supplies
  • liaising with UK-based organisations for professional / self-support throughout the Challenge
  • documenting your journey to social media for schools, businesses, followers etc.

The Person

As Sports Therapist / Welfare Adviser, you will be qualified in Sports Therapy / Massage or have extensive relevant experience. Able to communicate effectively (and in front of a camera), you will have a can-do attitude with a desire to ‘make a difference’. Self-motivated and able to multi-task, including a willingness to share the driving of team transport, you will also have:

  • ability to work to tight deadlines in challenging & mobile environment
  • keen eye for detail and excellent organisational skills
  • knowledge of First Aid, Welfare Management, general health support
  • excellent communication skills / confidence using social media platforms

You must be prepared to travel to and operate within the USA for up to 10 weeks. You will need to apply for a USA Tourist Visa and must not have previously been refused entry to the USA. Due to vehicle insurance restrictions you need to be 25 or older.
