Our Client & Opportunity:

Our mineral mining client owns and operates two large, mineral resource plants in Western Australia.  A senior leadership position has now become available for an experienced General Manager with Mining/Resources experience to be based permanently in the beautiful Onslow area. This is a residential based position in Onslow and not a FIFO opportunity and hence, FIFO applicants will not be considered on this occasion.

 

Duties & scope of the role:

Provide leadership, manage and administer strategic development for the solar salt operation in its entirety.  Ensuring occupational health and safety guidelines are followed at all times and take responsibility for the long term planning of the operation and its execution.  You will carry out comprehensive management duties, including overseeing financial administration, organising staff training and participating in the hiring of new employees.  You will have 4 direct reports initially who will be the Maintenance Manager, Production Manager, HSEQ Superintendent & Site Administration/HR site staff.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for:

  • Ensure compliance with the relevant Legislation Acts and Regulations across all departments and Site operations
  • Advise management of changes to legislation or activities being conducted or planned
  • Liaison with the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety people including Site Inspectors
  • Liaise with local government, and other regulatory personnel such as DWER as required
  • Ensure processes and systems are in place for recording of production and quality control information
  • Participate and respond to any expansionary plans contemplated, providing operational resources and skills for evaluation of options
  • Ensure production output meets the schedule of sales forecasts provided, ensuring on time, on quality delivery to customers
  • Develop plans and manage logistics and maintenance to ensure that monthly harvesting and schedule for sales targets are met and that quality specifications are achieved
  • Manage labour requirements to ensure safe and effective operations across all departments
  • Oversee all departments including security over personnel and assets, and ensure adequate processes and systems are in place for the recording of accurate information
  • Prepare budget based on long term perspectives
  • Manage day to day expenditures, CAPEX, profitability, cashflow and Product to achieve KPI targets. Update business forecasts in a timely manner.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking budgeted/estimated/actual costs and Margin Reporting + make recommendations to optimise profitability
  • Analyse data and documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates (Job product install costing/times and tariffs)
  • Lead the implementation of succession planning and development plans for critical site roles.

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated success at senior level within the Mineral Processing industry
  • Knowledge of relevant Government Mining Legislation  
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Science, Business/Management or similar (desirable, not essential)
  • Extensive experience working within a leadership/ management role
  • Exposure to Accounting practices, project planning and execution
  • Knowledge of the WHS Act and Regulations 2020 (WA)
