The Exciting Opportunity: 

This is a dynamic and highly commercially focused business-critical senior leadership position for an experienced SENIOR BUSINESS ANALYST who has a strong mining background and understands the mining value chain along with quality assurance and control.  

This is more that your bulk standard Senior BA position as it encompasses a highly level of commercial acumen and key stakeholder engagement, where you will be consulting with senior level technical specialists such as Project Managers, Engineers, Metallurgists and more.  Additionally, you will work with the Australian Commercial team (which you will be part of) to identify improvement opportunities to reduce costs and improve business performance. 

This is a site-based role where you will FIFO to Mount Isa and our client is able to offer a rotating roster with a high degree of flexibility as long as month end is covered.   FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville only.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for the following: 

• Develop strong partnerships with Site stakeholders to ensure delivery against strategic objectives
• Communicate regularly and effectively with customers to ensure their understanding of site and business area financial tactics, business drivers and priorities
• Participate on site business improvement teams and projects
• Co-ordinate the preparation, submission and analysis of annual budget and periodic forecast information and provide support to the weekly cash forecast process
• Cost Control – Contributing at key site meetings by providing advice, delivering reports and responding to queries
• Provide support / advice as required to Head Office Support functions to assist in understanding the mine sites profitability drivers
• Improve and maintain relevant site procedures and work practices in consultation with process excellence and governance managers
• Capex project performance analysis, capex and opex project appraisal including Business Improvement project assessment / appraisal, including NPV/DCF analysis for business case evaluations and assist with post implementation capex reviews

Essential Criteria: 

• Happy to undertake a FIFO positions on a rotating basis every month – 9/5 and 4/3 roster however there is some flexibility as long as month end is prepared for and covered
• Must have an accounting/finance or business tertiary qualification
• Must be CA/CPA qualified, or be in the process of studying towards this qualification
• Must have solid experience as a BA gained in MINING
• Ability to develop rapport, and build strong relationships across Site and Head Office to influence outcomes
• Advanced numerical reasoning, analytical skills and understanding of financial management practices
• Ability to understand technical and commercial mining information
• Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and effective presentation delivery
• Strong understanding of mining processes and critical inter relationships and inter dependencies within the mining value chain
• Solid knowledge of mining planning, budgeting, analysis and performance review cycles and processes
• Sound understanding of Financial and Management Accounting standards/ practices
• Several years’ experience at a mining company with planning & analysis, financial modelling and commercial
• Experience at an operating mine site will be valued
• Can achieve results within specified time-frames and resource constraints
• Able to understand stakeholders and motivate them to deliver on goals
• Continually seeks to improve processes and look for better ways of doing things
