MEGT are seeking a Horticulture Trainee and a Sports Turf Apprentice
MEGT has exciting apprenticeship opportunities available for individuals looking to start a rewarding career in the horticulture industry. Working with the City of Rockingham, these positions offer hands-on experience while completing a nationally recognised qualification.
About the roles:
These apprenticeships provide the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain valuable industry experience, and learn from experienced professionals while earning a qualification.
Horticulture Trainee
Working across various locations within the City of Rockingham, you will assist with the maintenance and enhancement of parks, gardens, and public open spaces.
Your duties will include:
- Assisting with landscaping projects and garden establishment works.
- Performing general garden maintenance including pruning, mulching, fertilising, and vegetation management.
- Identifying and controlling weeds to maintain healthy garden environments.
- Undertaking litter collection and site clean-up activities.
- Assisting with irrigation maintenance and repairs.
- Operating and maintaining small machinery and equipment in a safe manner.
- Gain a nationally recognised qualification – Certificate III in Parks and Gardens
- 3 Year Traineeship
Sports Turf Apprentice
Working across the City of Rockingham, with the potential to be based at the Lark Hill and Baldivis Sports Complexes, you will assist in maintaining high-quality sporting fields and turf surfaces used by the local community.
Your duties will include:
- Maintain and present high-quality sporting ovals and turf surfaces to professional standards.
- Prepare and manage turf cricket wickets, including turfing, fertilising, and irrigation maintenance.
- Operate a range of machinery including mowers, tractors with attachments, and utility vehicles.
- Use small plant equipment such as brush cutters, edgers, and blowers for grounds maintenance tasks.
- Assist with irrigation repairs and general turf management to ensure optimal playing conditions.
- Gain a nationally recognised qualification – Certificate III in Sports Turf Management
- 4 Year Apprenticeship
What we’re looking for - Skills and Experience
- A genuine interest in horticulture, parks and gardens, or sports turf management.
- A willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work safely in an outdoor environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide excellent customer service.
- Basic computer literacy, numeracy, and literacy skills, with the ability to use mobile devices and learn new systems.
- A White Card and Traffic Management Certificate are desirable but can be obtained after employment for successful candidates.
