HSE & Quality Lead
What will this job do to improve your life?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of Health, Safety and Environmental performance across a growing portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy projects.
Rather than stepping into an organisation with mature systems already in place, you'll have the opportunity to influence, implement and continually improve HSE processes, standards and behaviours across the business.
Alongside leading the HSE function, you'll also play an important role supporting project delivery teams by carrying out site inspections and contractor audits, ensuring projects are being delivered safely and to the expected quality standards.
You'll work closely with senior project leaders, contractors and site teams, giving you genuine influence over how projects are delivered from both a safety and quality perspective.
About the Role
Vinova is partnering with a renewable energy developer delivering utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects across Australia.
This position will take ownership of the company's HSE function, ensuring systems, processes and standards are effectively implemented across both office and site operations.
The role is approximately 60% office based and 40% site based, combining strategic HSE leadership with regular project visits.
You'll be responsible for developing and improving HSE systems, supporting project teams with compliance and risk management, conducting audits and inspections, and ensuring contractors are delivering work safely and to the required standard.
This is a hands-on leadership position that would suit someone who enjoys being close to projects rather than sitting behind a desk full-time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead HSE activities across multiple utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve HSE systems, policies and procedures.
- Drive a positive safety culture across internal teams and contractor organisations.
- Conduct site audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
- Provide support and guidance to Project Managers and delivery teams.
- Monitor contractor performance from both a safety and project quality perspective.
- Identify safety risks, quality concerns and compliance issues, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
- Review project documentation, incident investigations and risk assessments.
- Support project teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, compliantly and to a high standard.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience leading HSE activities within construction, infrastructure, utilities or renewable energy projects.
- Strong understanding of HSE systems, policies and legislative requirements.
- Experience implementing and improving HSE frameworks across project environments.
- Ability to build relationships with contractors, site teams and senior stakeholders.
- Comfortable conducting site inspections and challenging poor practices when required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality and workmanship issues.
- Practical, solutions-focused approach with a genuine interest in project delivery.
Benefits
- Ownership of the HSE function within a growing renewable energy business.
- Combination of strategic leadership and hands-on project involvement.
- Exposure to large-scale solar and battery storage projects.
- 60% office / 40% site split.
- Opportunity to influence both safety culture and project delivery standards.
- Long-term career growth as the project portfolio expands.
- Vehicle and travel support provided for project visits.
Company & Culture
This is a business that values practical leadership over bureaucracy.
They're looking for someone who can build robust systems and processes but is equally comfortable putting on their PPE, heading to site and engaging with project teams.
Success in this role will come from balancing strong HSE leadership with a proactive approach to site engagement, contractor management and project quality. The successful candidate will be trusted to influence how projects are delivered and help create a culture where safety and quality go hand in hand.
