Analytical Chemist R&D: An experienced Analytical Chemist (BSc, MSc, PhD), is required to use a diverse range of methods to investigate the chemical nature of substances with the aim to identify, quantify and understand the substance and how it behaves in different conditions for a leading global healthcare company.
The Analytical Chemist R&D will join GAMA Healthcare working at a new purpose built, state of the art 600m2 R&D facility in Greetland, Halifax. The facility comprises of an open plan office environment, with cutting edge research laboratories and auxiliary space for the production of test product samples. The main areas of focus for the laboratory is hospital infection control and wound care. The site is expected to host up to 30 members of staff, with the option of a further extension.

Responsibilities:
- Method development, validation of biocides and pharmaceutical compounds
- Maintenance / troubleshooting of equipment / methods predominantly LC and GC among other analytical equipment
- Routine analysis of a range of products
- Maintenance of consumable supplies
- Preparation of technical memos / reports
- Undertake training to broaden knowledge of analytical chemistry, biocide/pharmaceutical chemistry and regulations
- Write and maintain applicable SOPs
- Data inputting to LIMS and ELN
- General housekeeping of the analytical equipment, upkeep and running must be autonomous
- Work to predefined work packages but must use initiative
- Improve existing methods and develop new methods for a range of products
- Validate methods and write reports and report to Senior management
- Regular contact with other team members in chemistry, microbiology, external equipment handlers and chemical suppliers
- Meet with senior members of staff in R&D and HQ
Skills & Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience as an R&D Analytical Chemist
- BSc or MSc in analytical chemistry or an equivalent related field
- PhD in analytical chemistry or other related field would be desirable
- Experience of LC, GC analysis in a biocides/pesticides environment would be desired along with a pharmaceutical experience
- Proven experience of analytical chemistry working with a range of modern instrumentation such as LC/GC and more traditional/general analytical techniques
- 3 - 5 years’ relevant experience in an industrial environment accredited to cGMP, GLP or ISO
- Relevant industry experience, ideally in Health, Pharmaceutical or Bio-Tech areas
- Previous experience with LC, GC, UV-VIS and general wet analytical techniques
- Ability to Conduct and support scientific investigations and experiments
- Previous Sample clean up experience using a variety of techniques
- Strong Familiarisation with GLP or cGMP
- Skilled in LC and GC method development and validations
- Have a good understanding of relevant regulations
- Strong ability to communicate analytical results to scientific and non-scientific members
- Capable to problem-solve
- Ability to troubleshoot new and existing analytical methods
- Able to work independently and manage workload accordingly
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well within a team
- Ability to use relevant software’s to conduct extensive analytics
- Possess strong time management skills
