An opportunity has arisen with my client for an Operations Maintenance Manager on a permanent basis. This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with travel to HQ and the wider station network as required.

The Operations Maintenance Manager will be responsible for managing a group of line stations/business units, ensuring my client can deliver operational excellence and the best possible service for their airline customers.
This position requires someone with strong line maintenance experience and the technical knowledge to support busy operational teams, combined with the leadership capability to manage multiple stations, prioritise workload effectively and guide direct reports to do the same. The successful candidate will also need strong commercial awareness, experience of managing multiple budgets and the ability to structure workload across a busy operational network.
The post holder will be accountable for the overall operational and commercial performance of their responsible area, developing operating models and implementing short and long-term strategies to drive efficiencies and productivity.

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 08:30–17:00; Friday, 08:30–14:30
Responsibilities
The Operations Maintenance Manager will be responsible for:
- Setting direction in line with the company’s vision and strategy, leading and developing the Station Managers and operational teams.
- Being accountable for the operational and commercial performance of the line stations/business units assigned.
- Managing multiple costs and budgets, including developing business cases to support operational needs and business requirements.
- Structuring workload across multiple busy teams, ensuring priorities are clear and resources are used effectively.
- Driving continuous process improvement through the use of technologies, data analytics and lean methodology.
- Engaging with teams to ensure the departmental vision and priorities are clearly communicated.
- Managing the day of operation through a team of Station Managers to deliver operational excellence.
- Supporting direct reports in prioritising workload, managing operational demands and maintaining performance standards.
- Performing the Station Manager role for their home port or partner ports and being accountable for operational and commercial performance, as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.
- Developing station capability to support airline customers’ current and future business needs in an efficient and cost-effective way.
- Ensuring efficient recovery from operational disruptions and AOGs in order to minimise the loss of aircraft availability for airline customers.
- Managing and optimising manpower resource deployment, driving best practice on operational rosters and relief support across the network.
- Developing and implementing succession plans to ensure sufficient, high-quality talent with the knowledge, skillset and competencies required to fulfil business needs.
- Acting as the point of contact, building and maintaining relationships with airline customers.
- Overseeing the interview process, employment and management of operational teams to ensure appropriate staffing levels and qualifications to accomplish maintenance work as required.
- Maintaining daily adherence to agreed KPIs on compliance and performance.
- Carrying out and/or overseeing the ongoing competence of Station Managers and other team members as required.
- Building a strong safety culture, encouraging proactive reporting of safety occurrences, performing investigations and implementing mitigations to prevent re-occurrence.
- Taking responsibility for corrective actions resulting from Quality Audits performed within their area of responsibility.
- Being responsible for disciplinary process management.
- Ensuring OH&S and FRMS compliance within the Maintenance team.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have:
- Strong line maintenance experience, with the technical knowledge required to support and lead operational maintenance teams.
- An engineering degree or Aircraft Maintenance Licence, such as UK CAA, EASA or equivalent.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience on base / line maintenance, with a minimum of 2 years in a management role.
- Experience of managing multiple busy teams, ideally across different stations, locations or business units.
- The ability to prioritise workload effectively and guide direct reports to do the same.
- Strong commercial awareness, including experience of managing multiple budgets.
- The ability to structure workload, manage competing operational priorities and maintain performance across a busy network.
- Experience of managing a remote team and delivering high performance.
- Experience of leading change and delivering productivity and operational improvement.
- The ability to build strong and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong commercial and business acumen.
- Excellent knowledge of aviation standards in an airline maintenance environment, including UK CAA/EASA.
- Excellent knowledge of the application of Safety Management Systems.
- A high standard of written and spoken English.
- A high standard of computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
Operating Environment
This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with travel required to HQ and across the station network as needed.
The normal working day is between 08:30 and 17:00, Monday to Thursday, and between 08:30 and 14:30 on Friday.
This role will also require extensive travel to ensure station performance and standards are maintained, so flexibility on both sides is required.
