Overview
- Primary role: operate forklifts to move, load and unload goods across warehouse and quayside areas.
- Ensure safe, efficient material handling to support shipping, receiving and site operations.
Key responsibilities
- Operate counterbalance forklifts (Class B3) for loading/unloading, stacking and moving stock.
- Move goods between storage, quayside and delivery/vessel locations promptly and safely.
- Load and secure cargo onto vehicles and vessels; assist drivers and vessel crew as required.
- Prepare consignments: pick, pack, label and stage goods for transport.
- Carry out pre-start checks and basic maintenance on forklifts; report faults immediately.
- Maintain accurate stock movements in ERP/IMS and support physical stock counts.
- Follow site safety procedures, use PPE, and take part in toolbox talks and handovers.
- Assist with rigging or lifting tasks only as directed and within competence (slinging/assisting crane ops where required).
Essential qualifications & skills
- Valid Forklift Licence – Class B3 (counterbalance over 8 tonnes).
- Proven experience operating forklifts in warehouse or quayside environments.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow written/verbal instructions.
- Good spatial awareness, teamwork and time-management.
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors and in variable conditions.
Desirable
- Experience with ERP/IMS stock systems.
- Basic knowledge of LOLER, PUWER and manual handling rules.
- Additional certifications (CPCS/NPORS/ALLMI) if able to assist with crane or heavy plant duties.
Working conditions
- Warehouse and quayside setting with outdoor exposure.
- Physically demanding; may include shift work, overtime and occasional weekends
