Diagnostic Technician – Automotive

Stratford-upon-Avon

Salary: FROM £46,000 OTE – Negotiable Depending on Experience

Monday to Friday | No Weekends | Permanent, Full-Time

Are you an experienced Diagnostic Technician who enjoys getting to the bottom of vehicle faults and solving technical problems?

We're recruiting for a skilled and experienced Diagnostic Technician to join a busy, well-established independent automotive workshop in Stratford-upon-Avon.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the investigative side of vehicle diagnostics, takes pride in accurately identifying faults and has the technical expertise to work across a wide variety of vehicle makes and models.

Unlike a traditional Vehicle Technician role focused primarily on routine servicing and repairs, this position offers the opportunity to take ownership of the diagnostic process, from investigating customer-reported concerns through to identifying faults and recommending the appropriate repairs.

You'll be working on a diverse range of vehicles, from everyday cars and light commercial vehicles through to prestige models, including Bentley.

The Role

As Diagnostic Technician, you'll play a key role in accurately diagnosing vehicle faults, providing technical expertise and ensuring customers receive clear, professional advice on the repairs required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Investigating and diagnosing customer-reported vehicle faults and concerns.
  • Carrying out thorough diagnostic assessments using specialist equipment and your own technical expertise.
  • Identifying the root cause of mechanical, electrical and electronic faults.
  • Liaising directly with customers where necessary to clarify reported issues and gather additional information.
  • Producing accurate diagnostic reports and recording findings on digital job cards.
  • Working closely with the Service Department to prepare accurate repair estimates.
  • Carrying out repairs where appropriate or referring more extensive repair work to other workshop technicians.
  • Providing technical advice and guidance to other technicians when required.
  • Working closely with the Workshop Controller and Service Manager to ensure an efficient workflow.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in vehicle technology and diagnostic techniques.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced, technically capable Diagnostic Technician who enjoys problem-solving and has the confidence to work independently.

You'll ideally have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working as a Vehicle Technician.
  • Proven experience in vehicle diagnostics and fault finding.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge across a variety of vehicle makes and models.
  • Experience working within a multi-brand or independent automotive workshop would be particularly advantageous.
  • Confidence using diagnostic equipment, interpreting fault codes and identifying underlying issues.
  • The ability to accurately diagnose faults and recommend appropriate repairs.
  • Good communication skills, with the confidence to speak directly with customers when required.
  • Experience using garage management systems and completing accurate technical reports.
  • A full UK driving licence.

We're interested in hearing from experienced Diagnostic Technicians and Master Technicians who can demonstrate strong practical diagnostic capabilities and a genuine passion for fault finding.

Salary & Benefits

  • Total earnings FROM £46,000 OTE.
  • Basic salary starting FROM £40,000, negotiable depending on experience and expertise.
  • Additional profitability-based bonus with an OTE of £6,000 per annum.
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:30pm, with a 45-minute lunch break.
  • No weekend working!
  • 22 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Annual Christmas closure from 23rd December to 2nd January.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Staff discounts on parts and labour.
  • Access to workshop ramps for personal use.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Free food Fridays.
  • Regular staff social events.
