Principal Product Assurance Engineer

Job Description

One of the UK's leads in Defence and Security is looking for a Principal Product Assurance Engineer to join their Southampton site.

The main purpose of this role is:

To join the existing Quality Assurance team; working with Project Managers, Customers, Design/Development teams, Operations and Purchasing/Suppliers.
To lead Project Assurance activities on larger projects, covering all aspects of product assurance, ensuring product quality and the integrity of our design and manufacturing processes.
To carry out internal audits as part of overall internal audit plan.

Key Responsibility Areas:

Ensure all customer requirements are satisfied by effective Quality Assurance planning and implementation.
Build and maintain effective contacts with a range of people across several Divisions, sites & Lines of Business.
Support bid teams; review of Contractual Quality requirements, generate Quality plan including deliverables and a schedule of QA work packages.
Respond to specific quality questions from customer.

Other Requirements:

• Develop knowledge of the Company's processes and procedures to act as advisor to projects, and be able to undertake internal Quality audits.
• Understand configuration management requirement and develop knowledge of Company Configuration Management tool to review/audit/approve project documentation.
• Support Project teams; be part of an Integrated Project Team, manage and report QA work package status to Project Manager, identify and maintain Key Process Indicators to track project progression.
• Represent QA at Project Meetings, Customer Meetings, End User Meetings and Meetings with Suppliers.
• Non-conformance management (failure analysis, root cause corrective and preventative actions) recording progress on SAP, and track concessions.
• Share knowledge of AS9100 standard and act as advisor to projects and audit project compliance
• Ensure product compliance to regulatory and legal requirements, e.g. export controls, product safety
• Generate monthly status reports for Project Manager and QA Management. Be able to present information to Project, Customer End Users or Suppliers as appropriate.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge:

• Educated to Degree level or equivalent in relevant science or engineering subject.
• Practical experience working in a Quality Assurance / Project assurance discipline within an engineering design and/or manufacturing environment.
• Experience in a relevant manufacturing based industry (for example – electronics, semiconductor, optical packaging, medical, automotive, Space or defence)
• Effective communicator, both verbal and written, with all levels of the business and customers.
• Able to lead Product Assurance activities in a variety of product and functional teams
• Working knowledge of applying quality standards : ISO-9001 (Preferably AS-9100)

• Familiar with Quality tools and techniques - (D)FMEA, Root cause analysis e.g. 8D, statistical techniques.
• Familiar with SAP
• Trained internal auditor
