A fantastic opportunity is available to lead an existing team as Head Chef the successful chef will be leading a team of 5 chefs in this varied environment where you would have full control over the running of the kitchen.  The salary for this position is up to £28,000 and you will have the opportunity to earn a yearly performance related bonus dependent on the success of the business.  You would have previous experience leading a team in a fast-paced environment, alongside taking a hands-on role in the kitchen you would need to demonstrate a good understanding of the running of the business including stock & staff management including rotas and budget control.

The Company – This is a privately-owned venue in Scarborough that operates a 7 day a week food and drink service across all day parts including breakfast due to the rooms located above the venue.  In its busy periods they are serving up to 1,500 covers per week with space to cater for functions and events up to 80 people and holds weddings, corporate events and parties.


  • To take a hands-on role in leading the kitchen service alongside the team of chefs
  • Ensure all Health & Safety, Food Safety and COSHH Requirements are kept up to date and make sure the team are all compliant with these
  • Stock management including stock takes, ordering, rotation and liaising with suppliers
  • Staff management to include rotas, budget staffing cost projections in line with the levels of trade in the business
  • Ensure all operational area are properly prepared for each daily service
  • Take an active part in venue and group meetings alongside the General Manager
  • Take an active part in menu development and planning including costing dishes and working towards GPs set in the budgets
  • Actively lead in the service of functions and events including developing menus for guests and events


  • Level 3 in Food Safety or willingness to be put through the training
  • Experience with budgets and forecasting for wages and menu costings
  • A proven knowledge of using fresh ingredients
  • Experience in various types of functions and events catering up to 100 guests
  • Relevant Catering Qualifications – City & Guilds or NVQ
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment catering for high volumes of covers
  • Access to your own transport would be beneficial due to the location of the venue, but there are bus routes

Benefits – The role of Head Chef is offering a salary up to £28,000 per year, you will be expected to work 5 out of 7 days and up to 45 hours per week, you would be mainly working straight shifts, but there may be a possibility you would need to work some split shifts involving evening, weekends and bank holidays. Ideally you would require your own transport although there is a bus route.  Alongside your salary you will have the chance to work towards a yearly performance related bonus, discount on food and accommodation at this site and others within the group, meals on duty
