A rare opportunity has come about to join the kitchen team at a luxury award winning hotel on the outskirts of Scarborough, this position would be ideal for chef who is a good all-rounder in a hotel kitchen who is happy to work split shifts that could include breakfast, lunch and evening service from the al a carte menu.  This would be ideal for a Commis Chef.  You would form part of a 4-person kitchen team with over 60 years’ experience in kitchens and could earn a salary up to £19,000 per year dependant on your ability.

The Company – This independently owned Country House Hotel is based on the outskirts of Scarborough on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and has been a focal point here for over 150 years.  There are 21 bedrooms in the hotel and most of these rooms take advantage of the fantastic dinner, bed & breakfast offers which means over 80% of the guests dine in the restaurant in the evening alongside non-residents, which means they cater to up to 45 covers per evening.  There are also certain occasions where they would be doing private functions although these do not occur on a regular basis.

Role:

  • To be involved in the day to day running of the kitchen including preparation, cooking & presentation of fresh food.
  • To be involved in the planning of menus alongside the rest of the team
  • Ensure all relevant kitchen documents are up to date
  • Take an active role in all training and development programs
  • Comply with all Health & Safety, Food Safety and COSHH Requirements
  • Take an active part in the closing and opening procedures of the kitchen including the pot wash & cleaning
  • Be actively involved in the management of stock alongside the kitchen team

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Food Safety, Health & Safety and COSHH
  • A proven knowledge of English & Continental cookery using fresh quality ingredients
  • A positive approach to menu planning and development of hospitality services
  • Relevant Catering Qualifications
  • Experience working in a similar catering venue
  • Access to your own transport due to location of the venues

Benefits – The role of Commis Chef is offering a competitive salary of up to £19,000 per year, you will be expected to work 5 out of 7 days and up to 45 hours per week, you will be expected to work split shifts including breakfast, lunch and evening shifts.  Having your own transport would be beneficial for this role due to the location of the hotel although it is accessible by public transport if you would need to.
