We are recruiting for an experienced Sous Chef based in the Whitby, North Yorkshire area, with a salary up to £12.00 per hour depending on the experience and you would be guaranteed up to 48 hours.  The successful candidate will be responsible for running the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef, which includes ordering, staff management and menu development including costings. This position is permanent and offers full-time hours working in a rota 5 days over 7, including weekends, evenings and bank holidays. The successful chef will have had experience working in a similar café/bar restaurant environment and be happy working in a high-volume kitchen serving breakfast, lunch and dinner using fresh food.

The Company – This independent/bespoke hospitality venue boasts a restaurant, bar and accommodation in the centre of Whitby.  They pride themselves on the use of fresh produce, whilst also working with an extensive bar and cocktail menu within a fantastic team environment.

Role:

  • Food preparation, cooking and service to the specifications set by the venue
  • Stock management including ordering, rotation and management of deliveries
  • Staff management including training of junior members of the team assisting the head chef with the planning of the venue rota
  • Take an active role in setting up weekly meetings to discuss events, menu planning etc
  • Comply with all Health & Safety, Food Safety and COSHH Requirements
  • Take an active part in the closing and opening procedures of the kitchen including the pot wash & cleaning
  • Deputise for the Head Chef when needed fully operating and managing the kitchen

Requirements:

  • Relevant kitchen qualifications either NVQ or City & Guild
  • Level 2 or 3 Food Hygiene Qualifications
  • Relevant Health & Safety and COSHH experience
  • Proven knowledge of been able to mange a team involving staff development
  • Be able to motivate and build relationships within the team and between FOH & the Kitchen
  • Experience with menu development and costings of dishes
  • To work in a professional manor

Benefits – The role of Sous Chef is offering a competitive salary of up to £12.00 per hour, paid weekly and  you will be expected to work 5 out of 7 days and up to 48 hours per week this can be increased if the candidate requires through the season, you would be expected to work evenings, weekends & bank holidays and can take advantage of a share of the tips.  Due to the location of the business it is easily accessible in the centre of Whitby, although there is no parking available on the site.
