As Sous Chef in this award-winning boutique hotel in the Scarborough area you will be leading a small kitchen team in delivering consistent, exceptional fresh food, using locally sourced ingredients.  You must be happy working as part of a small kitchen team and covering shifts across breakfast, lunch and dinner producing food to a high standard catering for hotel guests and external guests using the restaurant and lounge facilities.  As Sous Chef there will be occasions when you expected to lead the food service and cover for the Head Chef including taking on responsibilities, such as stock management and developing junior members of the team.

The Company – This award-winning boutique hotel is privately owned and operates in the Scarborough area.  The hotel offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and runs an extensive menu catering for a wide audience using the very best locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Been privately owned the team is small and everyone works together giving the hotel a real feel of passion for the guests it serves in the hotel and the restaurant.


  • Preparation, cooking and service to the specifications set by the owners
  • Ensure all dietary requirements are met
  • Assist with the recruitment process for future chefs as and when required and to ensure all new starter inductions are complete.
  • To ensure all compliance with food hygiene, health and safety and cleanliness of the kitchen
  • Plan & develop front of house menus along with organising food for special events, which could include buffets
  • Stock management including purchasing & control of wastage
  • Ensure all legislation and company policies are adhered to
  • To make recommendations and planning for changes to product experience and service standards
  • To work as part of the team with the Business Owners to support and cover each other when required


  • Experience at Sous Chef or Junior Sous Chef level
  • Experience in menu development
  • Food Hygiene Level 2 or above
  • NVQ Catering Qualifications
  • Allergan Awareness
  • Experience in monitoring GP and working with budgets

Benefits – The role of Sous Chef is offering a very competitive salary of up to £27,000 per year.  You would be required to work up to 48 hours a week over 5 days including evenings, weekend and bank holidays, this would be predominately split shifts although there may be an opportunity for straight shifts depending on the division of the rota.  There is free parking offered on site and you would need a car due the hotels location.  This role would be ideal for a Scarborough based candidate or someone looking to relocate to the area.
