Youth Specialist (6-month fixed term contract) (PS210604193877) Birmingham, England
Closing date: 13/06/2021
In July 2022, Birmingham will host the XXII Commonwealth Games, the largest multi-sport event to be held in England in 10 years. Approximately 6,500 athletes and team officials from 72 nations and territories across the Commonwealth will come together in a 12-day celebration of sport and culture. Events will take place across Birmingham and the West Midlands, entertaining more than one million ticketed spectators and reaching a global broadcast audience of more than one billion.
Beyond the planning and delivery of the event, four Games partners are leading on the delivery of ten legacy and benefits (LAB) workstreams, these partners are the B2022 Organising Committee, West Midlands Combined Authority, Birmingham City Council and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). Each has a lead role for delivering at least one workstream and partners will measure and evaluate their own activities at project level. This is a complex and wide-ranging legacy programme.
This role will sit within the Generation 2022 team, delivering the Generation 2022 programme. The programme aims to work with young people aged 16 to 24 to offer opportunities connected to the Games that can help boost their skills and future employability.
Volunteers are a highly visible and valuable part of every Games. This is why Games partners have backed a new pre-Games programme for young volunteers, titled ‘Generation 2022’. This will actively seek to involve those who have:
- lost employment or training opportunities as a result of Covid-19;
- who are at risk of being drawn into the criminal justice system; or
- who face barriers in participating in the Games-time volunteering offer.
The successful candidate will provide consultative work to aid in the design of the programme and the pilot

- Work with the Organising Committee’s Community Engagement team and explore opportunities to gather feedback and input from a wide range of parties such as Young Combined Authority, Birmingham City Council’s Youth Panel, Birmingham Care Leaver’s Association, and West Midlands Violence Reduction Unit
- Support the ‘Meet the Games’ pop-up roadshows, either virtually or in person to showcase what Generation 2022 has to offer to these key stakeholders and the local community.
- Produce written outputs from engagement events (e.g. partner forums), capturing feedback and recommendations that can be shared with the wider Generation 2022 team and other relevant partners to inform next steps.
