Birmingham 2022 are looking for an experienced Spectator Communications and Engagement Manager to join the Event Services (EVS) team. The Spectator Communications and Engagement Manager will be responsible for the delivery of the spectator communication and engagement plan. The role encompasses the two pillars of producing communication materials and the planning and delivery of engagement touchpoints on venue. The successful candidate will be required to work closely with the EVS Operations Leads across 14 competition venues to plan, collate and produce content to ensure spectators have everything they need to enjoy their experience on venue.
The position will require the individual to be able to think and walk in the shoes of the spectator, to understand and distil all the information the spectator may need to know in an entertaining and functional format. The candidate should have strong relationship building skills, be a confident writer, comfortable working across digital, print and experiential elements, to develop effective and inspiring spectator event content.
Key Responsibilities
- Map, plan and deliver effective and tailored communications for each spectator group to support their individual on venue experience.
- Create templates and guides for the EVS Venue Leads to an individual venue guide for each of the Commonwealth Games competition venues, working with key functional areas of Sport, Transport, Security, Communications, Publications, EVS and Venue Management to gather all the required information. Bring the information together into an inspiring format which includes maps and all the information that spectator needs to plan and enjoy their day out.
- Communication materials include but are not limited to venue spectator guides for ticket holders, spectator information on the app, spectator maps and pocket guides and training guides for the volunteers who will service the spectator client group on site.
- Work closely with ticketing to ensure they have the correct content related to venue-based FAQ’s and the information they need to accompany each phase of the ticketing process.
- Create and maintain Games time Spectator FAQ content.
- Support the organisation in responding to Spectator enquiries at games time, coordinating between Headquarters and the EVS teams on venues and answering spectator enquiries with accurate information.
- Proactively work with operations team to identify EVS spectator Risks & Issues and develop appropriate information to mitigate these.
- Plan, cost and realise spectator engagement touchpoints across venues, working with the cluster managers and venue managers to create operational procedures. Ensure quality assurance processes are in place for EVS publications, training materials and other outputs.
- Develop plans to realise the spectator engagement activations across multiple venues and ensure that they deliver maximum engagement.
Person Specification
Essential
- Proven experience managing communication projects in major event environments on a similar scale and level.
- Experience of working in a PR team at an event managing social media feeds across platforms.
- Experience in creating staff manuals and spectator guides across multi venues.
- Prior experience in developing experiential activations, specifically designed to deliver social media engagement.
- Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary organisation and to build active, cooperative partnerships with external organisations in an integrated manner.
Desirable
- Qualifications in a similar experiential/PR role.
- Prior experience preparing planning experiential concept documents and briefing plans.
- Copywriting and Social Media Training (CIM or equivalent).
- Background in public speaking or training.
