Technical Contract Manager / Engineering Manager

Location: Central London

Salary: £65,000 - £70,000

Contract: Monday - Friday: 8am - 5pm

 

Key Responsibilities

Client Diplomacy & Strategic Partnership

  • Primary Client Ambassador: Act as the trusted, daily face of the business for Landlord Asset Managers, Managing Agents, and C-suite corporate tenant representatives.

  • Technical Communication: Bridge the gap between complex M&E operations and client expectations, translating technical engineering data into clear, actionable executive updates.

  • Performance Governance: Lead formal monthly and quarterly progress reviews, presenting transparent SLA/KPI reporting, compliance metrics, and asset performance insights.

Technical Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Technical Authority: Serve as the final on-site escalation point across complex MEP infrastructure, including HV/LV distribution, critical HVAC, centralized chillers, steam/gas plant, and smart BMS controls.

  • Showroom Standards: Drive an "engineering-first" culture, maintaining all plant rooms, workshops, and critical infrastructure spaces to immaculate, showcase-ready standards.

  • Incident Management: Direct emergency responses to plant failures or critical system alarms, leading rapid recovery procedures and presenting clear root-cause analyses to client stakeholders.

Statutory Compliance & Safe Systems of Work

  • Zero-Failure Governance: Ensure 100% statutory compliance across all M&E, water hygiene, and life-safety systems, overseeing immaculate physical and digital logbooks (ACoP L8, PSSR, Gas Safety, Fire Life Safety).

  • Safety Leadership: Oversee site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and govern the Permit to Work system to guarantee safe delivery across all internal and subcontractor works.

  • Technical Appointments: Act as or oversee on-site Authorised Persons (AP) and Competent Persons (CP) for High Voltage/Low Voltage and critical systems.

Team & Supply Chain Leadership

  • Team Mentorship: Direct, motivate, and mentor a dedicated resident team of Supervisors, Multi-Skilled Day/Shift Engineers, and Contract Support personnel.

  • Subcontractor Governance: Procure and audit specialist third-party contractors, ensuring their service delivery aligns strictly with site safety protocols and high presentation standards.

What We Are Looking For

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrable experience operating as a Technical Contract Manager, Engineering Manager, or Senior Technical Account Manager within a high-profile Central London commercial landmark or Landlord & Tenant portfolio.

  • Client-Facing Presence: Outstanding presentation and communication skills, with a polished, consultative approach suitable for interacting with senior landlord and tenant executives.

  • Technical Qualification: Minimum NVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in an Electrical, Mechanical, or Building Services Engineering discipline (HNC/HND or BEng is highly advantageous).

  • Regulations & Safety: 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.

  • High Voltage Exposure: HV experience or an active HV Authorised Person (HVAP) ticket is highly desirable; candidates with strong HV exposure and a willingness to complete fully funded HVAP training will be strongly considered.

  • Compliance Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of statutory health & safety legislation, SFG20 maintenance standards, and ACoP L8 water hygiene regulations.
