Production Manager

Production Manager (PM20) Telford, England

Salary: GBP35000 - GBP40000 per annum

This is an exciting opportunity for a Production Manager to join an expanding family owned business operating globally. The position of Production Manager is a senior role within the business and critical to maintaining a strong reputation with customers and delivering agreed objectives. The Production Manager will achieve this by;

 

  • Understanding and deploying Company policy and values in all areas of operation
  • Ensuring that safety is embedded across all activities
  • Motivating 3 Team Leaders, a Production Engineer, an Administrator and Operatives
  • Leading the organisation and integration of manufacturing, stores and despatch
  • Maintaining quality and on time delivery in support of the ‘customer first’ philosophy
  • Understanding detailed operational elements to enable interconnected process flow
  • Minimising cost, waste and plastic packaging, promoting improvement processes
  • Operating process and projects within an ISO9001 and ISO14001 framework
  • Using performance management to achieve objectives and promote improvement
  • Communicating the daily build plan with customer services to support sales focus

 

FURTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •  Safety is embedded within the culture and this role requires the maintenance of those standards and the ability to assess and actively manage daily activities to eliminate undesirable conditions that may lead to accidents
  •  Understanding and managing the production plan is core to this role. The Production Manager needs to demonstrate a command of this and ability to cascade and direct activity throughout all areas of the operations
  •  Where necessary the Production Manager must be capable of dropping onto a line to lead that activity as required. Whilst we do have Senior Operatives behind the Team Leaders who are capable of covering a line, we are looking for a Production Manager who is prepared to be a team player too.
  •  Achieving the plan to agreed KPI’s and overhead costs will require that the Production Manager is familiar with organising optimal activity, overtime control and use of temporary staff as and when required. Attendance at overtime will be part of the role as required.
  •  Operating within budget and constantly seeking cost down initiatives is an important part of the role. Identifying and implementing capital projects will also be part of this responsibility
  •  Ensuring that an effective preventative maintenance plan is in place through the Production Engineer. Reviewing the workload, focus and progress of engineering activities will ensure they comply, for example, mandatory legal maintenance, and the reduction of any downtime associated with machine or tool failure. Maintenance and recording of essential data in this respect will be required
  •  New Product Development needs to be launched into the business through well established processes and contributing to the effective productionisation process is vital to ensure these new products can be made to commercial targets
  •  Training and developing staff are key elements of this role using training matrices, one to one meetings and reviews support the development of the wider team. Recruitment and where appropriate, the use of disciplinary procedures, will need to be deployed.
  •  As a senior manager in the business, the Production Manager will work closely with the Purchasing Manager and Director of Sales. In addition, the Production Manager will have direct and open access to members of the Board.

  • Hands-on experience of the production environment.
