Overview
Search is currently working with an exciting and leading food manufacturing business. My client has a fantastic opportunity for a Hygiene Supervisor with a good understanding of food hygiene standards to join their growing hygiene team. This role reports to the Hygiene Manager, This is a great opportunity for a candidate who takes pride in being hands-on, factory facing and developing a strong food hygiene culture within the business.
Main Roles and Responsibilities:
• Assume the responsibilities of the Hygiene manager during such times as annual leave, sickness or whenever, for whatever reason the Hygiene Manager is away from the business.
• Supervise external contractors ensuring that cost and performance targets are met.
• Bring the idea of continuous improvement of hygiene standards throughout the site.
• Supervise daily operations, including the monitoring of daily agency hours and approvals.
• Undertake any other duties, projects, procedures or responsibilities as required by the company, the hygiene manager and/ or his immediate superior.
• Supervise the day-to-day pest control program.
• Identify opportunities for improvement/innovation and develop and implement action plans to maximise the potential benefits of such opportunities for the business.
• Supervise hygiene operatives within the process and against the hygiene plans to ensure performance.
• Supervise the planning and delivery of customer audits/visits which may be announced or unannounced and ensure the team are clear on what is required of them.
• Supervise the development and training of all the site hygiene activities
• Ensure daily cleaning documentation is available including areas within production areas
• Allocate duties according to the hygiene plans and trained abilities
• Communicate with the Hygiene manager to ensure attendance, punctuality, and holidays, and to organise replacement staff where necessary.
• Always ensure compliance with all HR policies and procedures
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with Company Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times
• Meet all individual and management responsibilities under the company’s health & safety policy and proactively contribute to an improving health & safety culture.
• Ensure that all chemicals are stored and handled correctly and staff are using appropriate PPE at all times.
• Following training to assist the Hygiene Manager in creating cleaning work instructions and safe systems of work and cleaning schedules for all periodic cleaning.
• Ensure that relevant hygiene equipment and machinery are maintained to the highest standard at all times reporting faults to relevant personnel for repairs
• Arrange work permits, silo isolation and lock off with engineers prior to silo cleaning/ high level cleaning performed by external contractors
• Carry out hygiene audits and inspections of all areas including offices, facilities, yards, silos, high level and any other areas as requested by the Hygiene Manager.
• Conduct regular check to ensure that the team fill in the required process and required paperwork correctly and promptly.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with Company Quality policies and procedures at all times
• Responsible for ensuring site security procedures are followed at all times
• Be able to understand the hygiene plan & communicate with relevant people to ensure optimum performance.
• Provide help, support and training to new staff when they commence employment,
• Responsible for ensuring compliance with Company Food Safety, GMP and Hygiene policies and procedures at all times
• Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of your work area by adopting a ‘clean as you go’ policy
• Attend relevant training courses including Food Safety training
• Carry out hygiene audits as per production shutdowns with the operations team.
• Instruct and guide production staff in all cleaning procedures.
• Liaise with engineers and production managers to strip down equipment to aid clean down.
• Ensure shutdown audit forms and production hygiene records are adequately completed.
• Generate detailed reports following shutdown cleaning.
• Update reports and KPI’s onto the electronic system.
• Supply cleaning chemicals for shutdown cleaning.
• Check chemical dosing units for correct operation and document checks.
• Monitor standards to demonstrate improved levels of hygiene or reduced cleaning times.
• CIP- following training undertake random hygiene audits of equipment and assess cleaning standards to ensure compliance to relevant standards and code of practice.
• Ensure that cleaning stores and chemicals are kept stocked
Required Experience
• Experience as a Hygiene Supervisor or Hygiene Team Leader in a Food Manufacturing Environment
• Good understanding & able to demonstrate people management skills.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements including the ability to understand and use cleaning work instructions, procedures and safe systems of work
• Knowledge of Hygiene/ cleaning and ability to handle chemicals and understand COSHH requirements.
• An ability to effectively prioritise a demanding workload to ensure that all KPIs are achieved.
• Effective communication skills both verbal, written and leadership skills
• Good command of the English language.
• Computer Literacy (Word, Excel, etc).
• Good level of mathematical aptitude.
