Senior Software Engineer – Python (40551) Dublin, Republic of Ireland

HRM have partnered with a global leader in business intelligence and data solutions to hire a Senior Software Engineer for an ambitious, high-impact initiative.

You will join an Agile engineering team comprising Software, Data, and Quality Engineers responsible for two major big data initiatives. These platforms process hundreds of gigabytes per day through massive ELTL ingest, person-centric matching algorithms, and sub-second serving batch and near-real-time processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cross-Team Technical Leadership: Partner across engineering teams, Product, and Data Analytics to navigate complex technical trade-offs that span multiple domains.
  • Domain Ownership: Take responsibility for system reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and security within your area. Drive root-cause analysis and postmortems when incidents arise.
  • Engineering Standards: Raise the bar for design reviews, API contracts, testing, and operability across the team.
  • Hands-on Engineering: Consistently deliver production code, focusing on complex architecture, de-risking prototypes, and reference implementations for the team.
  • Mentorship & Growth: Mentor mid-level engineers into senior roles, collaborating with Engineering Managers and Data Experts on broader technical strategy.

Must-Haves

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with substantial focus on building and operating production systems in Python on AWS (including direct experience operating at a Senior/Lead scope).
  • Proven track record of designing and scaling platforms or services that perform reliably under high load over time.
  • Sound judgment on architectural trade-offs (e.g., cost vs. latency, build vs. buy, consistency vs. availability) with the ability to articulate technical decisions clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven technical influence across teams through RFCs, architecture forums, shared libraries, or tech demos.
  • Active commitment to mentoring and growing other engineers.
  • Exceptional written communication skills for creating clear design docs, RFCs, and postmortems.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Strong AWS data platform expertise (e.g., Glue, Athena, MWAA, ECS/EKS, Iceberg/Parquet, Lakehouse patterns).
  • Experience with high-throughput serverless architecture featuring auditability and exactly-once semantics.
  • Background in financial, credit, or regulated data environments.
