Director of Corporate Social Responsibility

Cooley LLC is hiring a Director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to join their growing team. In this role you will play a significant role in the firm’s ability to better engage with clients, employees, potential hires and firm leadership. Through strategy development you will play an integral part into how the firm develops into the CSR space.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Drive development and implementation of strategies for the firm’s corporate giving, social impact and sustainability initiatives, ensuring that such strategies are aligned with the firm’s overall mission and priorities 
  • Work closely with DEI, Office Operations, Marketing/Communications and HR management in this effort 
  • Work cross-functionally to craft our corporate sustainability communications strategy and identify key moments for sustained momentum 
  • Drive sustainability innovations at Cooley, particularly in the areas of sustainable systems design and thinking 
  • Oversee the analysis of data from surveys and other materials that provide information on legal services and professional services sustainability initiatives. Work collaboratively with office management teams to execute any sustainability initiatives required as a result of market benchmark analysis 
  • Lead engagement, partnerships, and advocacy with key external entities to advance Cooley’s social responsibility presence and leadership 
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior leadership in establishing organizational social responsibility, sustainability and volunteerism goals, objectives, and reporting 
  • Ensure meaningful long-term goals and KPIs are set and met to positively impact our environment and support our communities  
  • Develop sustainability and CSR narratives to drive impactful communications strategies that reach a wide internal and external audience 
  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures related to corporate giving & social impact to ensure programs operate efficiently and in compliance with federal and state laws, as well as industry standards 
  • Oversee the firm’s employee volunteer program and policy to ensure alignment with firm goals 
  • Develop events to promote current and future corporate social responsibility programs 
  • Serve as primary point of contact for questions on social responsibility within the firm 
  • Develop reporting capabilities to support a comprehensive and accurate picture of the firm’s total giving, support approach(es) that enable the firm to measure change delivered by its programs 
  • Provide data for regulatory and finance reporting; analyze and reconcile, as required 

Working closely with designated managers and directors in Facilities/Office services, HR and DE&I, you will ensure meaningful, strategic goals are established and achieved to positively impact our environment. 

Required: 

  • Ability to travel, as required 
  • 10 years of relevant and management level experience, including corporate social responsibility, corporate philanthropy or foundations & sustainability project experience 
  • Experience driving solutions and programs in corporate sustainability and operations, and working on sustainability strategies 
  • Effective analytical skills and high attention to detail, including the ability to develop business cases, supervise the development of analytics and metrics, set goals, and identify gaps and opportunities for new projects and programs 
  • Background in DEI, sustainability, charitable giving, community relations, and employee engagement, as well as an eye for global trends that impact those issues 
  • Demonstrated ability in establishing relevant CSR-related metrics and a track record of exceeding goals 
  • Strong understanding of accountability models and metrics
