The Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) is a prestigious part of the Commonwealth Games in which the Convoy & Logistics Manager will play a major part in delivering. You will manage and support the Convoy & Logistics team to identify, procure and fit out all vehicles with the required equipment and the hiring of all drivers for the relay convoy.
Additional responsibilities will include, but not limited to, scheduling of deliveries, the establishment of convoy operational standing procedures, vehicle repair and maintenance, fuel and fuelling locations and mapping of convoy movements. The Convoy & Logistics Manager will report directly to the QBR Senior Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Determine all technology, livery and equipment needs for all convoy vehicles;
- Manage fit-out of vehicles to relay specifications including installing communications, racking, camera platforms etc. and branding of vehicles;
- Manage the allocation of pre-relay vehicles assigned to the QBR program including the completion of all related forms;
- Liaise with Tour Services Manager on staff travel, accommodation bookings, drop off and movement of laundry, packing, unpacking and movement of all relay staff equipment & luggage;
- Manage the fleet of relay vehicles, including maintenance, refuelling and cleaning;
- Monitor convoy operations expenditure;
- Provide training, leadership and supervision of all drivers;
- Manage the rosters for all vehicle drivers including making any necessary changes and ensure all drivers operate within the required regulations;
- Produce a post event report relating to the role and its responsibilities.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential
- Fluent in spoken and written English;
- Must hold a full current valid UK driving license (having a B, C & D category license is an advantage);
- Strong events & logistics background and proven experience of planning and delivering similar touring type events;
- Knowledge and understanding of the complexities involved in the planning and staging of road-based events;
- Ability to build relationships, with speed and credibility, with people at all levels (internal and external);
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Proven effectiveness and success in database management;
- Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Desirable
- A degree level education or equivalent professional qualification;
- Knowledge of the UK Driver license and driver hours Regulations;
- Exceptional staff management skills and the ability to manage a mixed group of staff including paid, volunteers, contractors and sponsor staff;
- Proven experience in vehicle procurement and fit-out;
- Proven experience of managing a large group of drivers;
- Writing and research skills, demonstrating the ability to prepare clear, concise oral and written reports and briefings;
- Knowledge of UK geographical layout and its cities and towns.
Salary: upto £35,000 per annum
