Our client is a Local Council located within Melbourne's eastern suburbs, offering a wide range of library facilities and services, including lending, special events, IT training, children's programs and internet and wireless access.
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity currently exists for a customer focused individual to earn while you learn within local government on a 12 month full time training contract. This entry level opportunity is designed to give you on the job experience whilst studying towards a nationally accredited Certificate IV in Library and Information Services.
The Role
In this role you will be actively involved in supporting your local community library with events and workshops (e.g. book club, school holiday activities and IT training), customer service and support, and information management.
Day-to-day duties may include:
- Provide clients with clear instructions on how to use library electronic resources
- Complete a range of library routine maintenance tasks such as; shelving, cataloguing of books, magazines and multimedia
- Assist in the running of community workshops and/or activities as requested
- Support customers about the different services, resources and facilities
- Handle money and balance the library float
Skills and Abilities
To be successful in this traineeship you will:
- Be competent in the use of computer applications and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Have excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Be generally fit and healthy, with the ability to stand for periods of time
- Work effectively as part of a team and under limited supervision
- Be able to satisfactorily obtain a Working with Children Check
