Patient Accounts Officer
Salary: $70K + 13% super + salary packaging + 17.5% annual leave loading
Location: Malvern or Mount Waverley
Hours: Part time - 4 days
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Patient Accounts Officer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of payments, reconciling, resolving discrepancies and general admin. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate payments in line with private health fund contracts, timely cash flow, and a high standard of service to patients, health funds, and internal stakeholders.
This role is strictly suited to candidates with proven experience in the private or public health sector or those who have worked directly with private or public health funds.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process incoming payments (EFT, BPAY, credit card, cheques)
- Receipt and allocate payments against invoices across multiple debtor system
- Reconcile payments with bank statements and remittance advices
- Identify and resolve discrepancies (short payments, overpayments, missing references)
- Handle unapplied or unidentified payments and investigate their source
- Assisting patients and their families with account-related queries (via phone and email)
- Actioning accounts in credit, processing of refunds
- Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated experience working within the private or public health sector or directly with private or public health funds
- Advanced understanding of private hospital funding agreements, billing structures, and contract interpretation
- Experience resolving complex funding and billing cases with private health funds
Skills & Capabilities:
- Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively to team goals
- Proven capability to maximise billing accuracy and cash flow outcomes
- Experience using patient management and billing systems
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
