Primary Supply Teaching Assistant

Salary: £90.00 – £105.00 per day (Weekly Pay)

Contract Type: Full-time / Flexible Working

Are you an empathetic, dynamic educator passionate about making a real difference in young learner's lives? We are looking for a dedicated Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to support students with additional learning needs.

In this role, you will be the key link in transforming a child's school experience—turning learning barriers into everyday victories in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

The Role & Impact

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with classroom teachers and specialists to deliver meaningful educational outcomes. You won't just supervise tasks; you will build confidence, foster independence, and create a safe space for students to thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Tailored 1:1 Support: Provide personalised educational and emotional guidance for individual students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

  • Lead Small Group Interventions: Guide targeted small groups in core subjects, ensuring every child receives the helping hand they need to progress.

  • Foster Inclusion: Create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment where all children feel valued and supported.

  • Adapt Learning Materials: Adjust daily activities and learning resources to match specific learning styles and individual EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) goals.

  • Monitor & Track Progress: Observe student engagement and progress, providing insightful feedback to class teachers and SEN Coordinators (SENCO).

  • Manage Classroom Behaviour: Implement proactive behaviour management strategies tailored to individual SEN requirements to encourage positive learning.

  • Promote Independence: Help students develop crucial social, communication, and life skills to build confidence inside and outside the classroom.

Role Requirements

Must-Haves (Essential)

  • Proven experience working with children in a primary school, nursery, or educational setting.

  • Clear understanding of supporting children with additional learning needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, MLD, or SLCN).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an approachable, empathetic nature.

  • Excellent adaptability, patience, and proactive problem-solving abilities.

  • An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).

Nice-to-Haves (Desirable)

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Early Years, or Specialist Support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).

  • Specific SEN training (e.g., Makaton, PECS, Team-Teach, or Trauma-Informed practice).

  • Prior experience delivering targeted 1:1 or small-group interventions.
