Hardware Systems Engineer

Hardware Systems Engineer (NWS34) Bath, England

Salary: GBP30000 - GBP55000 per annum

The client is a world leading R&D consultancy going through huge amounts of growth.

They are seeking to appoint a Hardware Systems engineer to work on safety critical, defence related projects.

Your role

The company design safety critical, embedded, hardware and software systems for the defence industry. You will operate in a project environment working with our team to design an end-to-end hardware/software system. Your role will oriented towards the hardware side of this task with activities including the following:

  • Liaise closely with our clients to develop system requirements for safety related/critical, real-time, embedded systems.
  • Allocate functional and safety requirements between hardware and software.
  • Support project safety engineers in hardware hazard analyses and identify mitigations.
  • Develop system hardware architectures and system safety arguments.
  • Produce hardware specifications for our suppliers.
  • Review supplier hardware designs from suppliers.
  • Lead the development of hardware test harnesses.
  • Support activities surrounding EMC qualification and environmental certification.
  • Produce Certificates of Design.
  • Liaise with the manufacturer to support production, delivery and resolution of manufacturing faults.
  • Support the client to resolve hardware failures of delivered materiel.

Skills & Experiences

Essential

  • Degree qualified in a relevant subject and Chartered Engineer status.
  • Experience in the full development lifecycle (requirements to manufacture) of hardware for safety critical, embedded software defence systems.
  • A current SC clearance or willingness to apply.
  • Experience in formal methods and/or rigorous design notations such as SCADE.
  • A good appreciation of safety engineering, reliability engineering and security considerations.
  • Strong customer facing and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge and/or appreciation of ADA and/or SPARK
  • Ability to lead small teams of up to 5 people.
