The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Civil Engineering Supervisor looking to oversee high-profile groundworks and infrastructure projects across Teesside?

Search Consultancy is recruiting a hands-on Civil Supervisor for active main-contractor civil projects in Middlesbrough. This position offers strong project continuity, excellent daily rates, and a direct leadership role on major industrial developments, heavy groundworks, deep drainage, and highway infrastructure schemes in the Tees Valley.

If you possess a valid SSSTS or SMSTS certificate, have a strong background in managing ground crews and sub-contractors, and excel at keeping site operations running safely, on time, and to spec, we want to hear from you.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Site Manager / Project Manager, you will lead daily site activities, manage workforce safety, and ensure seamless delivery of civil engineering works:

• Site Supervision & Workforce Leadership: Coordinating direct labour, ground gangs, plant operators, and specialist sub-contractors on site daily.

• Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance: Conducting daily site inductions, delivering Toolbox Talks (TBTs), reviewing RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements), and enforcing strict PPE and safe digging/lifting protocols.

• Progress & Work Scheduling: Monitoring daily outputs across deep drainage, bulk earthworks, concreting, service ducting, and road construction to ensure milestones are met.

• Quality Assurance & Inspections: Verifying work levels and tolerances against engineering drawings, signing off permit-to-dig documents, and managing quality inspection logs.

• Plant & Material Logistics: Overseeing plant movements, material deliveries, muck-away schedules, and ensuring site welfare and storage zones are safely maintained.

Requirements & Qualifications

To satisfy main contractor standards and site access compliance, all applicants must possess:

• Supervisory Certification: Valid SSSTS (Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme) or SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certificate (strictly mandatory).

• CSCS Card: Valid Gold (Supervisor) or Black (Manager) CSCS card.

• First Aid & Safety: First Aid at Work (3-day or 1-day Emergency) and valid CSCS/EORCA/CAT & Genny awareness certifications are highly advantageous.

• Civil Engineering Background: Proven track record supervising heavy civil engineering, bulk earthworks, deep drainage, structural concrete, or highway schemes.

• Transport & Mobility: Full UK Driving License and reliable transport to commute to sites across Middlesbrough and Teesside daily (easy access via A66 / A19).

• Right to Work: Valid proof of right to work in the UK.
