The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Shuttering Joiner with expertise in modular pan systems, looking for long-term concrete formwork contract work south of the Tyne?

Search Consultancy is recruiting a precision Shuttering Joiner for a major civil engineering/structural development in Sunderland. Offering a high market rate of £25.00 per hour (CIS), this position provides multi-month project stability and consistent full-time hours for a time-served operative capable of erecting timber shuttering and modular panel systems for structural concrete pours.

Your Role & Responsibilities

Working alongside concrete placement gangs, steel fixers, and site engineers, your daily duties will focus on structural formwork and shuttering:

• Modular Pan Systems: Erecting, aligning, and striking proprietary modular pan formwork systems (such as PERI, Doka, or MEVA) for structural walls, cores, and retaining structures.

• Traditional Timber Shuttering: Fabricating, measuring, cutting, and assembling timber and plywood shutters, ground beams, caps, and soffits to exact engineering drawings and specifications.

• Tie-Rods & Hardware: Installing tie-rods, sleeves, anchor bolts, push-pull props, and stop-ends securely to withstand high hydraulic concrete pressure during pours.

• Inspection & Release: Applying release agents cleanly, verifying plumb lines, squareness, and level tolerances prior to concrete placement, and executing clean strikes post-curing without damaging faces.

• Safety Protocols: Installing edge protection, temporary guardrails, and working safely on elevated platforms in strict compliance with site RAMS.

Requirements & Qualifications

To satisfy site entry and quality standards, all applicants must possess:

• CSCS Card: A valid Blue (Skilled Worker) or Gold (Advanced Craft) CSCS card in Formwork / Carpentry & Joinery (strictly mandatory).

• Formwork Experience: Proven track record in heavy shuttering, structural concrete formwork, and modular pan systems on commercial, industrial, or civil engineering developments.

• Tools & Kit: Full 110V or cordless shuttering tool kit (circ saw, impact drivers, heavy-duty hammers, hand saws, pinch bars, tape, spirit level, square) and standard 5-point PPE.

• Transport: Reliable transport to commute to site locations in Sunderland daily (convenient access via A19 / A1231 corridors).

• Right to Work: Valid proof of right to work in the UK.
