Job Title: Environmental Engineer
Location: Bristol or Yeovil
Employment Type: Contract 6 months with the potential to extend.
Working time: Mon -Friday only
Package: Competitive hourly Rate, Hybrid (min 2/3 days a week onsite)
Candidates with experience of working directly/indirectly with MOD in the development of Environmental Cases (IAW Def Stan 00-051), including Environmental Management Plans, Register of Environmental Standards, Environmental Features Matrices, Environmental Case Reports etc are preferred.
Our clients System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join its collaborative team. The Environmental Engineering function helps ensure continued compliance with environmental legislation, policy and standards, while identifying, advising on, mitigating and reducing environmental risks across company products, systems and services.
This role would suit a detail-oriented professional who can collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders and work across disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the integration of environmental management considerations into the design and development of products, systems and services.
- Assist technical lead environmental engineers with the development and implementation of environmental management strategies for projects and programmes.
- Develop environmental deliverables in line with project or programme statements of work, including environmental management plans, registers of environmental standards, environmental features matrices, environmental case reports and hazardous materials reports.
- Drive, report, review and refresh environmental objectives and targets.
- Influence the selection, design, use and disposal of products and services across relevant life-cycle phases.
- Support the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team on individual programmes, helping maintain the Environmental Management System and comply with appropriate UK environmental legislation.
- Develop platform sustainability plans and support the Sustainability Team in promoting sustainability across UK programmes.
- Collaborate with our client, customer and supplier technical disciplines to ensure appropriate evidence is available to support the environmental management strategy.
- Manage or support the client, customer and supplier environmental meetings.
- Manage or support the flow-down of environmental requirements to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review and approve supplier environmental management deliverables.
- Manage or support internal, external and subcontractor/supplier audit activities and review changes for environmental impacts.
- Respond to audit findings and observations, developing corrective and preventative actions to address shortfalls.
- Provide environmental management support to system safety engineering where required.
- Manage or support the development of environmental design practices and processes.
This position may require occasional UK or international travel.
Basic Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology including Manufacturing Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent non-US qualifications directly related to the work statement.
- Member of, or working towards membership of, a recognised UK environmental professional body, such as the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP).
- Experience in environmental management or environmental engineering within aviation or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of environmental law, policy and industry standards, such as UK REACH, ISO 14001 and Defence Standard 00-051.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to work in a team-oriented environment.
- UK National status is required, and candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience with environmental assessment techniques and processes, including the identification of environmental aspects and impacts and risk analysis.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on time to first-time quality standards.
- Environmental auditing experience.
