Our global aviation and defence client is seeking interest in the following contract opportunity. The work is scheduled for 12 months and will be based on their premises in Bristol.

An opportunity has arisen for a highly flexible Business Analyst who will be required to proactively engage with business departments to identify and capture business requirements. The IT Business Analyst acts as a liaison between business stakeholders and the IT team to gather, analyse, and document business requirements for technology solutions. This role ensures that IT projects align with business needs and delivers value by facilitating clear communication and understanding between technical and non-technical teams.
The Business Analyst must be able to gain the confidence of both business and technical staff and act as the facilitator between both groups of staff. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator able to present ideas and facilitate workshops. The candidate must be a self-starter with experience of working in a matrix organisation with the ability to discuss ideas and concepts with staff of all levels.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit, analyse, and document detailed business requirements.
- Translate business needs into functional specifications and user stories for IT development teams.
- Conduct gap analysis, feasibility studies, and impact assessments to support decision-making.
- Facilitate workshops, interviews, and meetings to gather requirements and validate solutions.
- Work closely with project managers, developers, testers, and other IT professionals to ensure requirements are understood and implemented correctly.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) by developing test cases, coordinating testing activities, and documenting results.
- Assist in the development of training materials and user documentation.
- Monitor project progress and help manage scope changes and issue resolution.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend technology solutions to enhance business operations.
- Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Advantageous Experience:
- Sparx Enterprise Architect and DOORs knowledge
- Development of Use Cases and UML
- Broad knowledge of general IT management (such as application selection/development, IT infrastructure, project and supplier management).
- Experience of working within the Defence sector
- An understanding of the complications introduced when handling ITAR, Official-Sensitive and Export controlled data
- Any specific experience of Business Systems (Oracle, SAP, GOLDesp), TeamCentre Multisite and SharePoint)
- Experience of working within a multinational matrix management environment / structure and a large-scale, complex international organization, but also within small teams.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business Administration, or related field.
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) as a Business Analyst in IT projects.
- Strong understanding of business analysis methodologies and tools.
- Experience with requirements gathering, process modelling, and documentation techniques.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
- Proficiency with business analysis and project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, MS Visio).
- Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Knowledge of supply chain management, procurement, engineering, finance, asset management, maintenance and support environments, or a combination of, is preferred.
- Effective written communication skills
