Generation Planning Engineer

Generation Planning Engineer (JO016117) United Arab Emirates

To manage water and power production Planning, operate and run Unit Commitment (UC) software for day ahead scheduling and back casting. Managing routine maintenance of all production units ensuring harmonization of outage program and secure supply of power through the network. 

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Execute all assigned tasks and to ensure that these are executed efficiently, accurately and in a timely manner
  • Report on the overall performance and work progress of tasks assigned 
  • Execute all external stakeholder facing transactions in line with the strategy resulting in higher satisfaction and timely delivery of services
  • Address stakeholder needs, problems and requests in a timely manner
  • Ensure the delivery of a world-class stakeholder experience
  • Support the stakeholder focused culture minimizing disruption to impacted stakeholders ensuring stakeholders are kept informed

Operational Excellence related 

  • Generate required reports. 
  • Review generation total costs, fuel costs and quotas. 
  • Secure and economic power and water production. 
  • Timely and effective interface with Power Control Room. 
  • To coordinate the scheduling of generating units connected to the grid while ensuring economy of operation and security of supply. 
  • To liaise with EWEC & Fuel supply for assure the adequate availability of main fuel and Back Up Fuel (BUF) with keeping the maximum storage of BUF capabilities.

  • Daily and monthly reporting 
  • Issue the daily Power outages (PCR/GOPA) newsletter to PCR and PNOD. 
  • To manage the generation to meet the forecast power demand, spinning reserve requirements and to coordinate with water planning and water real time to meet water demand as well.

  • Load Forecasting 
  • Monthly Constraint Report update  
  • To liaise with Planning sections of Interconnected authorities to maintain the schedule exchange across the interconnector, schedule and coordinate outages, emergency assistance, compensation program and other commissioning activities. 
  • UC output Review and Gas Nomination issuance 
  • To optimize the generation outages to meet the predicted power & water demands considering declared availabilities. 
  • To comply with relevant operational standards & procedures and to work towards the full application of the Power Transmission Code in the operational matters. 
  • To upgrade technical skills and knowledge on an ongoing basis. 
  • To work with other teams to ensure timely and accurate provision of technical data/information for internal and external use. 
  • To verify and check the correctness of generation database, to maintain the same and to provide EWEC and DOE with necessary data. 
  • Special Studies related to UC 
  • Week ahead outage outlook issuing to internal and external concerned teams. 
  • Acquire the required skills and knowledge through appropriate training programs

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 4-6 years in relevant areas 
  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
