Nicholas Associates have an excellent opportunity for a Battery Test Technician to join a leading automotive client in Warwickshire.
Reporting to and working with the Head of Battery Engineering, the Battery Testing Technician plays a critical hands-on role in the execution of battery testing programs for various applications.
Working under the guidance of test engineers, the technician is responsible for preparing, operating, and maintaining test equipment, and supporting the safe execution of customer-specific tests. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong technical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and quality. Your contributions will support to the validation of the latest battery technologies for electric mobility applications.
1. Test Setup and Preparation
• Prepare and configure test benches, fixtures, environmental chambers, and safety systems for testing of batteries or battery related materials.
• Install test materials into test equipment following defined procedures and safety protocols. • Label, wire, and connect test samples according to configuration specifications and test scripts.
2. Test Execution and Monitoring
• Execute routine tests (e.g., performance, cycle life, swelling) as instructed by the Engineering team.
• Monitor test equipment and software during operation to ensure proper cycling and data logging.
• Detect and report test interruptions and equipment faults promptly.
3. Script Handling and Equipment Operation
• Perform basic edits or adjustments to test protocols under the guidance of an engineer or supervisor.
4. Data Handling and Documentation
• Assist in the extraction and transformation of raw test data for review by engineers or customers.
• Maintain accurate logs for traceability and quality control.
5. Lab Maintenance & Calibration Support
• Support the calibration, and daily maintenance of test equipment and lab infrastructure.
• Maintain lab cleanliness and ensure tools, cables, and fixtures are in proper working condition.
• Manage inventory of test consumables such as connectors, labels, insulators, and PPE.
6. Safety and Compliance
• Follow strict guidelines when handling lithium-ion cell.
• Participate in lab safety audits, and safety improvement measures.
7. Collaboration and Support
• Work closely with test engineers to implement test plans and support fast, accurate execution of cell tests.
• Communicate clearly with engineering team members.
• Support customer-focused testing efforts by ensuring high standards of care and data integrity.
Education / Experience required:
• Experience in an engineering environment, ideally working in testing & development
• Familiarity with industry standard battery testing equipment (e.g., Keysight)
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits, wiring, and data acquisition
• Experience in a lab environment or test facility with structured safety procedures
• Familiarity with test scripting tools or ability to follow detailed engineering instructions
• Knowledge of test documentation standards and basic data recording/reporting
