Central Australian Aboriginal Congress are one of the most experienced Aboriginal primary health care services in the country, a strong political advocate of closing the gap on Aboriginal health disadvantage and a national leader in improving health outcomes for all Aboriginal people. Congress has expanded to become the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation in the Northern Territory, providing a comprehensive, holistic and culturally-appropriate primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in and nearby Alice Springs, including five remote communities.

What’s the role?

  • Providing expert delivery of safe and effective evidence-based education, clinical care, advice and support to clients with diabetes or at risk of developing diabetes (and their families)
  • As part of the multidisciplinary team, work towards improved care planning (including compliance) and continuity of care across service boundaries
  • Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of culturally appropriate education resources for Aboriginal people and other health professionals
  • Health promotion activities
  • Promote appropriate and effective insulin management to clients and clinic staff

Is the role right for you?

  • Registration, or eligible to register, with AHPRA as a registered nurse with at least 3 years clinical experience in chronic disease management and/or primary health care and credentialed with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association as a diabetes nurse educator
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in planning, implementing and evaluating education programs, resource development and health promotion activities
  • Awareness of/sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, and knowledge of current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people.
  • Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations
  • Current NT Manual Drivers Licence
