Why Central Australian Aboriginal Congress?

Central Australian Aboriginal Congress are one of the most experienced Aboriginal primary health care services in the country, a strong political advocate of closing the gap on Aboriginal health disadvantage and a national leader in improving health outcomes for all Aboriginal people. Congress has expanded to become the largest Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation in the Northern Territory, providing a comprehensive, holistic and culturally-appropriate primary health care service to Aboriginal people living in and nearby Alice Springs, including five remote communities.

What's the role?

  • Whilst undertaking credentialing with the Australia Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), provide expert delivery of safe and effective evidence based education, clinical care, advice and support to clients with diabetes or at risk of developing diabetes (and their families).
  • As part of the multidisciplinary team, work towards improved care planning (including compliance) and continuity of care across service boundaries.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of culturally responsive education resources for Aboriginal people and other health professionals.
  • Facilitate appropriate Medicare claiming.

Is this role right for you?

  • Registered or eligible to register with AHPRA as a registered nurse with at least 3 years clinical experience in chronic disease management and/or primary health care and undertaking, or willing to undertake credentialing with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association as a diabetes nurse educator.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in planning, implementing and evaluating education programs, resource development and health promotion activities.
  • Awareness of/sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, and knowledge of current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people.
  • Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations. Current NT Manual Drivers Licence.
