Department overview:

 

The Prudential Planning and FRM team is responsible for delivering key liquidity and capital planning initiatives for Nomura European Holdings (NEHS, the European consolidation group), primarily driven by UK and European regulatory requirements. The team ensures NEHS is adequately capitalised at all times as well as identifying any threats to the viability of the firm and helps the management identify appropriate actions. The team also supports and facilitates management of financial resources for the Wholesale business (Global Markets and Investment Banking Division). The team structure is lean and relatively flat, sitting within the Finance department in EMEA. The team spearheads the following:

 

 

  • Recovery & Resolution Planning
  • Solvent Wind-Down (SWD) Planning
  • Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP)
  • Individual Liquidity Adequacy Assessment Process (ILAAP)
  • Contingency Funding Planning
  • Financial Resources Management (FRM) working together with the Group FRM

 

 

These initiatives have been at the top of regulator’s agenda and therefore the Board’s agenda in recent years. In particular, the Resolution Planning has been a key focus for NEHS and the wider Nomura Group. We work closely with a range of teams across Finance, Risk and the Front Office across regions.

 

Key objectives critical to success:

 

The firm is looking to recruit an individual at VP / senior associate level to support execution of the Prudential Planning team’s core responsibilities including:

 

  • Delivery of key initiatives as listed above with a greater focus on Resolution Planning, in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments, engaging with industry forums/peers and responding to public consultations
  • Internal policies, including documentation, implementation of resolution initiatives and collaboration with the NHI Group Resolution Team to ensure consist implementation of resolution initiatives with the overall Nomura Group Resolution Plan
  • Preparation of regular Board and Management Committee reporting, coordinating senior management sign-off
  • Regulatory engagement, e.g. PRA / BoE Resolution Continuous Assessment meeting
  • Ad hoc impact analyses on financial resources (e.g. capital), providing cross-team support as required

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

 

  • Regulatory/financial services industry experience with a focus on prudential risk and resolvability
  • Solid understanding of new and pending regulations around resolution, including their impact to firms
  • Prior experience of Resolution Planning, especially involvement in financial institution’s initiatives to comply with the requirements under the Bank of England’s Resolution Assessment Framework, is desirable
  • Strong communication skills, with an ability to gather wide range of information from various literature / regulatory publication and synthesise / convey complex issues succinctly
  • Strong organisation and project management skills, coordinating deliverables and people to tight timelines
  • Ability to operate in an environment with a high level of scrutiny and collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal/external stakeholders
  • A strong risk and controls mind-set with the confidence to provide challenge
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and as part of a team
  • A proactive ‘can do’ attitude
