Quality Engineer – Electronics / Electro-Mechanical Manufacturing

We’re currently recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a leading manufacturer based in Hemel Hempstead. This is an excellent opportunity for a Quality Engineer with an electronics or electro-mechanical manufacturing background to join a growing business and play a key role in driving quality and continuous improvement across the production environment.

Reporting to the Quality Manager, you’ll take a hands-on role across production quality, root-cause analysis, supplier quality and the ongoing maintenance of the company’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

Key responsibilities as a Quality Engineer will include:

  • Conducting in-process and final quality inspections across electronic assemblies, PCBAs and mechanical integrations.
  • Monitoring production quality performance and identifying recurring issues and trends.
  • Investigating component, assembly and system failures, carrying out root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Using quality tools including 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA and CAPA to resolve and prevent non-conformances.
  • Supporting the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the ISO 9001 QMS.
  • Conducting internal audits and supporting external audit and surveillance activities.
  • Managing quality documentation and non-conformance records.
  • Carrying out incoming inspection of electronic components and raw materials.
  • Working with suppliers to investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Working closely with Production and Engineering to improve manufacturing processes, reduce defects and rework, and increase first-pass yield.
  • Providing quality reports, audit findings and non-conformance updates to the Quality Manager.

The successful Quality Engineer will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a Quality Engineer within electronics, electro-mechanical or similar manufacturing.
  • Strong practical knowledge of ISO 9001 and experience working within a quality management system.
  • Experience with internal auditing would be highly advantageous.
  • The ability to interpret electronic schematics, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Experience working with PCBAs / electronic assemblies.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards, particularly IPC-A-610, would be beneficial.
  • Strong experience in root-cause analysis and structured problem solving.
  • Good knowledge of quality tools such as 8D, FMEA and CAPA.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with production, engineering, suppliers and senior stakeholders.
