Electrical Engineer – Manufacturing / Facilities Environment

The Opportunity

A leading global manufacturer operating within a highly technical production environment is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the safe and reliable operation of the site’s electrical infrastructure.

This is a hands-on facilities-based role, focused on maintaining and improving electrical distribution systems, critical power infrastructure, and automation systems across a complex manufacturing facility.

You will work closely with the Facilities Engineering Manager and an experienced on-site Electrical Engineer, with structured training provided where required — including development toward High Voltage Authorised Person status if not already held.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of the site’s electrical distribution systems
  • Maintain and fault-find on building services electrical plant including:
    • UPS systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Fire detection systems
    • Back-up generation
    • HVAC plant & controls
  • Support and maintain automation systems and PLC-based equipment
  • Ensure PLC programme back-ups and disaster recovery processes are maintained
  • Work in line with IET Wiring Regulations, HSE guidance, and statutory compliance requirements
  • Liaise with and manage external maintenance and installation contractors
  • Operate within Permit to Work systems
  • Contribute to proactive maintenance and continuous improvement activities
  • Support small project activities and infrastructure upgrades

Skills & Experience Required

  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of electrical plant & equipment
  • Ability to read electrical drawings and fault find effectively
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and statutory requirements
  • Experience (or willingness to train) as a High Voltage Authorised Person
  • Awareness of PLC systems and industrial automation environments
  • Experience organising contractors and overseeing work packages
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

Project management experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Qualifications

  • Degree / HND / HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • 18th Edition (BS 7671) – IET Wiring Regulations
  • C&G 6037 HV Systems Operations (desirable – training supported if required)
