My client, based in Bridgwater is a leading logistics company operating across the UK committed to safe, compliant, high-quality, and responsible operations. My client is seeking an experienced Head of Sustainability & Compliance to lead and embed best practice across Health & Safety, Quality & Assurance and Risk.

This is a senior, strategic role with real influence, based in Bridgwater and reporting into the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety for Head of Susatinability & Compliance

• Provide strategic leadership for all Health & Safety activities across the organisation
• Ensure full compliance with UK H&S legislation and industry standards
• Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, audits, and training
• Lead incident investigation, reporting, and corrective actions
• Champion a strong, proactive safety culture across all sites and operations

Quality & Assurance

• Own and continuously improve the company’s Quality Management Systems
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or equivalent)
• Lead internal and external audits and manage corrective/preventative actions
• Partner with operational teams to enhance service quality and customer assurance

Risk & Compliance

• Develop and maintain the company-wide risk management framework
• Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, regulatory, and strategic risks
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations
• Report key risks, compliance, and assurance metrics to senior leadership and the Board

Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility

• Define and lead the company’s Sustainability, ESG, and CSR strategies
• Drive environmental initiatives including carbon reduction, waste management, and resource efficiency
• Lead CSR programmes focused on employee wellbeing, ethical practices, community engagement, and social impact
• Monitor, measure, and report sustainability and CSR performance and KPIs
• Support customers and stakeholders with sustainability, ethical sourcing, and compliance requirements

About You

You will be a confident, credible leader with a strong background in compliance and sustainability within logistics, transport, or a related operational environment.

Essential for Head of Sustainability & Compliance, based in Bridgwater

• Proven experience in a senior H&S, Compliance, Risk, Sustainability, or CSR role
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory frameworks
• Experience managing Quality and Assurance systems
• Ability to influence at executive, operational, and external stakeholder levels
• Excellent leadership, communication, and change-management skills

Desirable for Head of Sustainability & Compliance, based in Bridgwater

• Professional qualifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, ISO Lead Auditor, ESG or sustainability certifications)
• Experience delivering CSR and ESG programmes in operational environments
• Background in logistics, transport, warehousing, or supply chain sectors
