The Role: Experienced Geotechnical Supervisor (Field Based Role)

Location Watford -Covering the South East Region

Working Pattern: Monday to Friday working + Overtime

Salary: £35k - £42k DOE

The Opportunity

Our client is a European market leader within environmental testing covering geotechnics, soil, water and air testing. They are expanding their field based teams and we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Supervisor to manage a team of field based Construction Materials Technicians. This is a field based role working out of our client’s base in Watford. The role will be covering clients and projects in the Watford area and the south east.  As a Geotechnical Supervisor you will be responsible for ensuring that all site and laboratory activities and testing are carried out in accordance with relevant British and European Standards. The successful candidate will lead, develop and manage the Site Services team while maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, technical performance and commercial awareness.

Main Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities

• Lead develop and mentor the Site Services team to maintain high levels of competence and performance across the region
• Manage departmental resources effectively to ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations.
• Undertake site operational tasks as required to support service delivery
• Liaising with clients and internal teams maintaining strong communication,
• Continuous improvement of operational efficiencies and client deliverables including turnaround times
• Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, Quality, Technical and Commercial compliance.
• Undertake operational tasks, checking and reporting as per ISO 17025
• Support the organisation in achieving and maintaining UKAS accreditation.
• Manage site diary alongside others within the operational team.
• Follow procedures as per the quality manual.
• Develop, implement and review operational policies and procedures.
• Ensure all legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.
• Support working communication and collaboration with the management team.
• Drive continuous improvement across operational processes, client deliverables and turnaround times.
• Provide commercial and operational KPIs to management

Candidate Profile & Experience

To be considered for this role, the successful candidate will have previously worked as a senior construction materials technician who wants to progress to the next level or be an experienced Geotechnical Supervisor. You will have the following skills and experience.

• Be able to demonstrate technical knowledge in geotechnical or construction materials testing disciplines.
• Solid understanding of the construction industry, ideally from a contracting or materials testing background
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Experience working within UKAS‑accredited systems
• Experienced in all aspects of Materials Testing
• Strong appetite for the role and willingness to embrace challenges
• Proven team management experience and be self motivated
• Highly client‑focused with the ability to set and achieve measurable results.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in a customer‑facing role.
• Strong attention to detail and understanding of quality‑driven environments.
• Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Team‑oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
• Punctual with excellent time‑management.
• Strong organisational and prioritisation abilities.
• Positive attitude toward change and continuous improvement.
• Ability to adapt to various in‑house systems and follow procedures.
• Experience working in challenging physical environments.
