About the Sizewell C Project…
As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF Energy is leading the way in building a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK. Sizewell C (SZC) is a proposed new nuclear station that is being developed with a target to start construction at the end of 2021. It is a large infrastructure project with a very important role in the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. The project will have a big impact in the drive to reduce carbon emissions in the UK.
The SZC Project Team is a growing, diverse and collaborative organisation committed to engaging stakeholders, obtaining development consent and preparing the project for the start of construction. The Project Delivery Organisation (PDO) is an integral part of this project, responsible to manage the end-to-end delivery (EPCC: Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning) of the plants, ensuring scope is delivered Safely, to Quality, on Time and within Cost. The PDO develops its Quality Team, in charge of the definition and implementation of the quality strategy, with the aim of completing the project ‘right first time’.
Principal Accountabilities
The Quality Lead for the PDO programmes is responsible for implementing, managing and continually improving the Quality Management for the Sizewell C project to ensure that the project remains in compliance with Licence Conditions 17 and 6, and the NNB Quality Policy with associated arrangements.
The post holder will work in close collaboration with the Programmes, SZC site and other project functions to ensure that project quality is delivered consistently (safely, efficiently and right first time) compliant with the current revision of ISO9001 and respecting Nuclear Safety as paramount at all times. In particular, the Quality Lead will work in close collaboration with the SZC Safety & Licencing Team and Client Quality organisation, the PDO Programmes and their associated Multi-Disciplinary Delivery Teams, the Programmes respective Supply Chains and the associated Inspection and Surveillance organisations.
The 2 Quality Leads will focus on different aspects to ensure Quality is integral to the whole structure and all processes:
o Lead # 1 - will focus on building a quality organisation, the Integrated Management System [IMS] & the client organisation
o Lead # 2 - will focus on our supply chain, supporting the tendering, RFI’s & all associated contracts
Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities
• Accountable to the Programme Directors for all quality delivery activities within the Programmes and support the Project Managers to deliver “right first time” their scope of work
• Design, develop and implement the quality strategy and the quality arrangements within the PDO Programmes and the respective supply chains.
• Developing the PDO Quality team infrastructure and resource plan, including roles, skill requirements and activity alignment, enabling resource allocation according to the needs and schedule from the programmes.
• Develop, lead and manage the team and resources necessary to deliver the Quality objectives of the Programmes including the appointment and management of inspection and surveillance services
• Develop and deploy the SZC Integrated Management System, Non-Conformance, Learning, Audit, Surveillance and Inspection and Records management process and tools required for the Programmes
• Responsible for ensuring the overall quality planning and implementation of quality arrangements within the Programmes Multi-Disciplinary Delivery Teams, ensuring compliance with LC17 and LC6.
• Establish and maintain strong and effective working relationships and management of internal and external stakeholders including Project/Programme Multi-Disciplinary Delivery Teams, Client Quality, Supply Chain Management, Suppliers and Alliances, Independent Third-Party Inspection Agents, Inspection/Surveillance bodies, Regulators and Design Authority etc.
• Responsible for reporting quality performance of the Programmes Multi-Disciplinary Delivery Teams and of the supply chain contracted to the Programmes and providing a route for escalation where required.
• Responsible for ensuring that supply chain organisations contracted to the Programmes acknowledge, understand, accept, respond to and fully comply with NNB’s contract quality requirements, and responsible for supporting the suppliers in achieving this.
• Responsible for ensuring that quality issues, including Non-Conformances, Counterfeit Fraudulent and Suspect Item (CFSI) mitigation and delivery of Lifetime Quality Records (LTQR), are driven to timely successful and acceptable resolution, in the overall interests of the Programmes objectives without compromising quality or nuclear safety.
• Responsible for identifying opportunities for improvement, supporting their implementation and making recommendations accordingly.
Dimensions
• The Quality Lead reports to the Head of Quality (the NI Program Director acts as it in the interim) with potential direct reports (up to 5)
• The Quality Lead will have strong connection with the Client QA Manager and the Safety Licencing and Assurance Director, Supply Chain Management and the PDO Programme Directors and associated teams
• The Quality Lead will be responsible for obtaining the necessary support and resources needed, providing direct support to the management of supply chain quality activities as well as supporting individuals across the business at all levels for programme quality issues.

Essential
• Strong interpersonal skills. Able to engage credibly within and external to the business.
• Ability to influence and encourage change of behaviours across a wide range of organisational levels
• Expert knowledge of Quality Systems, ISO 9001, ISO 19443, ISO 14001 and interrelated processes such as ISO 45001, GSR-2/3.
• Strong presentation and communication skills – able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders
• A strong and credible decision maker, able to create confidence through crafting of strong justifications and arguments
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
• Degree qualified in an engineering or science related discipline or equivalent
• Extensive experience within the UK regulatory environment
