Head of Internal Communications (Construction)
We are recruiting for a Head of Internal Communications on 6-month fixed term contract. Your role will be to provide strategic leadership and hands on input for the development and delivery of the internal communications strategy within the construction directorate and support communications into the Construction supply chain and across the wider organisation.
As a Head of Internal Communications, you will need to have/be:
- Leadership and team management skills
- Planning, budget, resourcing and project management skills
- Ability to develop and deliver industry leading internal communications, aligned with strategic business objectives across a range of internal communication channels
- Ability to produce and present information to a variety of stakeholders and ability to engage and respond to queries and requests in a way that fosters collaboration
- Influencing, negotiation and coaching skills including with senior internal stakeholders ahead of change programmes or with teams, ahead of broader internal communications campaigns
- Analytical skills and ability to conduct research and apply insight in the development of the organisation’s narrative and corporate messaging
- Ability to understand and promote complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive way to different audience groups
- Ability to represent an organisation in challenging situations and environments due to public scrutiny
- Ability to work with ambiguity and rapidly changing circumstances
- Knowledge of the development, delivery and measurement of best practice internal communications and its role in enhancing business performance
- Working knowledge of new and emerging internal communications tools, techniques and channels as well as evaluation techniques and practices.
- Working knowledge of Government/Whitehall communications processes and practices
- Working knowledge of internal and corporate crisis communications planning and activation scenarios
- Knowledge of project management tools and the applications of them within corporate communications
- Understanding of how to promote complex and sensitive issues in a persuasive way to different audiences
- Knowledge of public affairs, media relations, corporate communications, community engagement, social media and campaigns
Would suit someone with the following type of experience:
- Experience of developing and delivering comprehensive, evidence-based internal communications strategies and plans aligned with wider business objectives
- Experience of providing counsel on internal corporate communications to Executives and senior leaders across large, complex, fast-paced matrix organisations
- Experience in being responsible for the development, delivery, and measurement of internal communications and resources planning, defining the processes and structures required to achieve success
- Experience of delivering to agreed deadlines in a fast-changing environment, within a multi-disciplinary environment or team
- Experience of internal engagement in crisis and/or major incident communications
Details:
- Salary: £54, 500 - £85, 180
- Working Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday
- Location: Birmingham/Hybrid (2 days per week in the office)
- Duration: 6 month fixed term contract
Role of Head of Internal Communications:
- Work with the Director of Construction and their team to develop and deliver a comprehensive, evidence-based internal communications strategy for the directorate,
- Work with the Head of Internal Communications and the wider Internal Communications team to plan and deliver the Internal Communications Strategy
- Within Construction, drive positive staff engagement, lead and co-manage effective change communications via a range of channels that enable targeted, timely and engaging communications
- Contribute to creating an inclusive culture that helps the organisation achieve its objectives
- Establish a best-in-class business partnering operating model for internal communications working with supply chain, Joint Venture partners and Integrated Partnership Teams throughout construction.
- Build relationships across the organisation and gain buy-in, support and sign-off on key construction related internal communications activity from the Board, Executive and Senior Leadership Team
- Play an active role as a member of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement senior team, to build and promote the department’s internal reputation as a strategic advisor and high-performing strategic communications and stakeholder engagement service
- Support the development and implementation of a crisis communications plan as and when required
