VMWare VDI Engineer – UK & EMEA travel
Gibbs Hybrid is looking for an accomplished VMware Senior Engineer to provide expertise across the end client’ VMware environment. The VMWare VDI Engineer will provide design and implementation analysis and recommendations around VMware virtualization, with heavy influence on the virtual desktop environment.
This role is for an initial 10 months, £550-600pd via umbrella or Limited. Travel expenses for EMEA (75%) will be paid.
• Engineer and design improvements for the VMware environments
• Apply enterprise design principles and best practice for implementing and supporting VMware virtualization pods (On-prem and Azure)
• Supports overall health and capacity management of environment
• Performs capacity planning for VM environment
• Interfaces with Network Operations team to coordinate and schedule new implementations or maintenance initiatives. Produces detailed documentation including data flow diagrams, logical diagrams, and physical diagrams as required.
• Configures or coordinates monitoring thresholds, alarms and alerts
• Taking full ownership of all projects assigned and will work with various teams to resolve any operational production related incidents.
• You will be required to provide reporting metrics on system information using scripts and automation tools. You will need working knowledge with Roaming profiles, Group policy, SQL, IIS, Windows Servers and Active Directory.
Essential:
• You will have performed numerous virtualization engineering activities. From small to very large environments, with hands on experience on many different virtual systems, applications and technologies.
• The VMWare VDI Architect/Senior Engineer will be required to have strong windows powershell scripting and or programming language abilities.
• Providing departmental automation and reporting to improve overall operational process improvement.
• Experience with migrations to public clouds (AWS, Azure, GC, Office 365)
• Working hands on experience with Windows OS technologies (Win7, Win10, Win2K8, Win2K12, Win2K16)
• Senior level understanding of VMware VDI concepts, principles and practices
• Architecture experience in large VM environments with Hyperconverged Infrastructure and NSX Distributed Firewalls
• Understanding of design principles around networking, storage and servers
• Experience with Zero or thin client devices (Dell or HP)
• Ability to self-manage assigned tasks and projects and work independently with minimal direction
• Ability to identify problems, and effectively communicate solutions to peers and management
• Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality
• HCoA experience desired, but not required
• VMWare VCP certification, desirable
