Position
We are seeking experienced medical practitioners to join a multidisciplinary Obstetrics and Gynaecology team in Tasmania.
The successful applicants will provide high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care across inpatient and outpatient settings, working collaboratively with medical, nursing, midwifery and allied health teams to deliver safe, patient-centred care.
Provide high-quality obstetric and gynaecological care.
Assess and manage patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Participate in emergency, theatre and on-call services.
Support teaching, supervision and multidisciplinary teamwork.
Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance and research.
Work collaboratively with consultants, registrars, junior medical staff, midwives, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative staff.

Essential Criteria
Successful applicants will be required to meet the following essential criteria:
Hold specialist registration; or
Be a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) on the specialist pathway; or
Be a registered Medical Practitioner who is an IMG with a recognised overseas specialist qualification and sufficient experience in the specialty, as assessed by the relevant authority.
Hold current Working with Children Registration.
Demonstrated clinical experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
Commitment to patient safety, quality improvement and teaching.
Ability to participate in emergency and on-call services as required.
Desirable Criteria
Recognition as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist through completion of FRANZCOG training or equivalent.
Experience in obstetric ultrasound.
Service Overview
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology service provides comprehensive specialist care across:
Obstetrics and antenatal care.
Postnatal care.
Labour and birth.
Gynaecology.
Emergency care.
Theatre and surgical services.
Outpatient services.
Specialist and high-risk obstetric and gynaecological care.
The service operates within a multidisciplinary team comprising consultants, registrars, junior medical staff, midwives, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative and support staff.
The service has a tertiary referral role, providing specialist and complex care for patients referred from hospitals across Tasmania.
The department also contributes to medical education and training, working closely with the University of Tasmania to support medical students, junior doctors and specialist trainees. Staff are encouraged to participate in teaching, research, clinical governance and continuous service improvement.
Appointment Details
Multiple positions available.
Fixed-term, full-time and part-time positions.
Day worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight.
Contracts available for up to four months.
Flexible commencement, depending on the successful applicant.
Hours are negotiable with the successful applicant.
Remuneration benefits
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 – Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3:
$222,789–$319,701 per annum pro rata, plus 12% superannuation and access to salary packaging.
Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range of $309,222–$319,701 is subject to the successful applicant meeting the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 under the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
