Large Shovel Driver (Night Shift)
As a Large Shovel Driver, you’ll support the safe and efficient movement of waste and SRF across site operations. You will be responsible for feeding and blending materials for processing, maintaining product quality by preventing contamination, and ensuring lorries are loaded correctly and on time. You’ll also complete daily plant checks and leave equipment in a clean, ready-to-use condition for the next shift.
Hours: Monday to Friday (Night shift: 5pm–4am or 6pm–5am)
Location: Stanwell Moor, Surrey
Pay: £16.00 per hour
Key Responsibilities of a Large Shovel Driver:
- Keep the SRF shredder discharge conveyor free of material at all times
- Ensure SRF product is kept free of contamination at all times
- Load the correct SRF product onto the correct lorry and liaise with the weighbridge operator to confirm correct SRF grades
- Load all lorries in order of priority and in a timely manner
- Inspect trailers for cleanliness prior to loading and complete associated paperwork in full
- Inspect trailers once loaded and “blow down” to remove loose debris prior to dispatch
- Ensure in-feed materials are constantly and uniformly fed into the 360 Material Handler to maintain maximum shredder in-feed
- Blend different in-feed materials sufficiently prior to pushing up to the 360 Material Handler for loading into the shredder
- Remove large/bulky items and any potentially damaging or unsuitable materials from in-feed waste before pushing to the 360 Material Handler
- Help maintain a clear tipping hall floor for waste deliveries by heaping up feedstock
- Keep waste at the rear of discharging lorries at a level that maximises tipping efficiency (as quick as possible)
- Assist in identifying problematic waste deliveries (suitability, composition, and nature)
- Complete daily Mobile Plant maintenance check sheets for the Large Shovels in full
- Keep the cab clean and tidy and ensure floors/working areas are free from waste and contamination
- Carry out continual checks of the shovel and bucket for contamination
- Ensure SRF grades are not mixed and are contained in their respective bays
- Ensure suitable cover is available when taking breaks
- Move all SRF at least twice before loading out to allow cooling and drying prior to dispatch
- Clear any spillages from lorry loading immediately
- Assist where possible with maintaining discharge bays (pushing up, emptying and loading out other products as directed)
Requirements of a Large Shovel Driver:
- Must have previous experience driving a shovel forklift
- Able to work Monday to Friday nights (5pm–4am or 6pm–5am)
- Complete end-of-shift handover by leaving the machine in a clean and suitable condition for the following shift, including:Diesel topped up
- Engine/hydraulic oils checked/topped up
- AdBlue topped up
- Machine fully greased
- Engine filters and radiator blown out
- Cab blown out and cleaned
- Any other duties required to maintain the plant item
