Hours: Monday–Thursday 07:30–16:30, Friday 07:30–13:30

Nicholas Associates are delighted to be recruiting for an exciting opportunity for a Welding & Fabrication Team Leader to join a successful and growing manufacturing business based in Hoyland, Barnsley.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Welder/Fabricator, Welding Supervisor or Team Leader looking to take the next step in their career, combining hands-on technical knowledge with team leadership responsibilities.
The successful candidate will take ownership of a designated welding and fabrication production area, leading a multi-skilled team and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
The Role
As Welding & Fabrication Team Leader, you will be responsible for:
- Leading, organising and supporting a multi-skilled welding and fabrication team.
- Allocating work and balancing workloads to meet daily production requirements.
- Driving production targets and ensuring output KPIs are achieved.
- Providing guidance and technical support to team members.
- Conducting daily team briefings and maintaining clear communication across the department.
- Supporting hands-on welding and fabrication activities when required.
- Ensuring components and fabrications are produced accurately and to specification.
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Monitoring quality throughout the production process and addressing defects.
- Ensuring welding and fabrication work meets required commercial quality standards.
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety across the workshop.
- Supporting risk assessments, COSHH and manual handling procedures
Experience required
- Previous experience within a welding and fabrication environment.
- Strong practical welding and fabrication skills.
- Experience working with MIG and/or TIG welding; MMA experience would be advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Previous experience leading, supervising or mentoring a team.
- Ability to organise workloads and allocate tasks effectively.
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures within a workshop or manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to identify and resolve production or quality issues.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S or continuous improvement would be advantageous.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable taking a hands-on approach when required.
- Willingness to support and develop other members of the team.
- Reliable, proactive and able to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
