Oracle Developer (BBBH8104) Melbourne CBD, Melbourne, Australia
Oracle / PL/SQL Developer
12-Month Contract | Melbourne CBD | Hybrid
We’re partnering with a large enterprise organisation looking for an experienced Oracle / PL/SQL Developer to join a major, multi-year technology program.
This is a hands-on development role working within a large, established enterprise application environment. You’ll work across an existing Oracle codebase, developing enhancements, troubleshooting complex issues and supporting business-critical systems.
While Oracle and PL/SQL are at the core of the role, the technology environment will continue to evolve. There will be opportunities to learn new technologies, broaden your technical capability and take on greater ownership as the program progresses.
The initial contract is for 12 months, with the broader program expected to run for several years and genuine potential for long-term extensions.
The role
You’ll be responsible for:
- Developing, maintaining and enhancing applications built on Oracle Database and PL/SQL
- Building and modifying packages, procedures, functions, triggers and complex SQL
- Working across large existing codebases and understanding dependencies between applications and systems
- Troubleshooting production and application issues and performing root-cause analysis
- Reviewing and optimising SQL and PL/SQL performance
- Supporting application enhancements, testing, releases and ongoing improvements
- Working within Unix/Linux environments and using shell scripting
- Taking ownership of technical issues from investigation through to resolution
- Working with technical and business teams across a complex enterprise environment
- Learning and working with additional technologies as the platform evolves
What we’re looking for
You’ll be an experienced Oracle / PL/SQL Developer, ideally with around 10–15 years of commercial experience, with recent experience centred on hands-on database development.
You’ll bring experience across:
- Oracle Database and PL/SQL development
- Packages, procedures, functions and triggers
- Complex SQL development
- SQL troubleshooting and performance optimisation
- Large, established enterprise applications
- Production troubleshooting and debugging
- Unix/Linux and shell scripting
- Working independently within complex technical environments
- Picking up unfamiliar technologies and becoming productive quickly
Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:
- Oracle Advanced Queuing (AQ)
- High-volume transactional systems
- Billing or metering platforms
- Energy, utilities or similarly complex regulated environments
This position is focused on core Oracle Database and PL/SQL development. It is not an Oracle APEX, Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), DBA or Data Engineering position.
The opportunity
This role would suit an experienced developer who enjoys getting into complex systems, understanding how they work and solving technical problems, while continuing to expand their technical skill set.
You’ll be joining an established team within a significant long-term program. As your knowledge of the environment grows, there is scope to broaden your technical exposure, become a key source of knowledge within the team and take on greater responsibility.
With an initial 12-month contract and a multi-year program ahead, there is genuine potential for this to become a long-term engagement.
If you’re an experienced Oracle / PL/SQL Developer looking for a substantial contract with technical depth, stability and the opportunity to continue learning, apply now for a confidential discussion.
