Exciting new Permanent opportunity for a Product Design Authority based in Southampton.
Following a recent expansion, our global engineering and Manufacturing client is currently looking to expand their team in Southampton with an experienced Product Design Authority for development projects in high performance infrared focal plane array detectors.
This role is to cover the full product life cycle from early customer engagement and concept development through prototype verification to handing over a fully qualified product to manufacturing.
As a Product Design Authority you will be able:
• To provide leadership to a technical team with a broad range of physics, mechanical and electronics skills.
• Responsible for the integrity and suitability of the design and for leading the lifecycle management of the product, including design reviews, verification, and qualification activities. Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required Qualifications
• Good degree or equivalent in Physics or relevant Engineering discipline (Electronics, Systems etc).MSc or PhD advantageous.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
• Technical leadership, communications, problem solving, project planning, and technical writing skills. A high degree of numeracy is required, together with a track record of technical leadership in product development and an ability to negotiate, build consensus and influence effectively.
• Industrial experience in a related technical field or in systems engineering is highly desirable.
• Knowledge and competencies
• Ability to draw clear conclusions from complex numerical data.
• Ability to apply a range of physical principles (electrical, thermal, mechanical, optical) to a wide range of technological problems.
• To be able to coordinate efforts in, and over time, to lead the team's understanding in some of the following areas: silicon IC processes and design procedures, semiconductor manufacturing and design, infrared detectors and their applications, qualification procedures for military applications, cryogenic techniques.
• Strong communicator, clear thinking and organised problem solver.
• Mainly office based, but with some travel in the UK and occasional overseas travel to meet customers.
