We have a unique opportunity for non-VR GPs to receive fully funded training to complete their Fellowship!

Goondir Health Services in St George has a fulltime General Practitioner vacancy, which is a targeted recruitment location for the 2020 Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS).

RVTS is a vocational training program for medical practitioners to communities throughout remote and rural Australia.

As a targeted recruitment location, training is fully funded by the Australian Government and the four-year training program is delivered by Distance Education and Remote Supervision to Fellowship of the ACRRM and/or RACGP.

Training will commence in February 2020. To be successful for inclusion in the 2020 RVTS, you will need evidence of an offer of employment from Goondir Health Services and then undertake an interview with RVTS.

During your training you will be supported by RVTS through weekly webinars, face-to-face workshops, online resources, on-site clinical teaching, remote supervision and exam preparation.

In addition to this, Health Workforce Queensland may be able to support your move to St George with some of the following:

  • A relocation grant for moving expenses;
  • Financial support to orientate and settle in, such as initial accommodation expenses;
  • Designated staff member for transition and ongoing career pathway support;
  • Bursaries to attend conferences and continuing professional development activities;
  • Bursaries for your spouse or partner to undertake personal or professional development courses.

Goondir Health Services is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Service (ATSICCHS) that requires a Full Time GP Registrar for its St George Clinic. Support will be provided by an onsite Supervisor.

Goondir St George has been included for a recruitment target campaign for Non-VR GP’s wanting to undertake and complete their Fellowship. Goondir St George is also an approved training site for General Medical Training (GMT).

Previous employment within Indigenous Health would be an advantage but not essential.

The successful applicant will deliver GP services focusing primarily on Indigenous clients including assessment, examination, treatment, and case management within a Primary Health Team in accordance with prescribed professional and ethical standards whilst demonstrating high levels of professionalism and integrity, be an innovative thinker and apply high moral and ethical standards to ensure confidentiality is maintained.

Practice Demographics:

Clinic is a fully equipped medical facility, with 2 consulting rooms and 1 treatment room. We have 1 full time RN/ Clinic Manager and 1 part time RN. There are 2 Aboriginal Health Workers, 1 medical receptionist, 1 transport officer and 1 cleaner.

Community Information:

500 km inland from Brisbane, situated on the Balonne River in southern Queensland. The District population is approx. 3,800 people.

A variety of quality education and health services are available. These include childcare, preschools, primary schools, high school and a skill centre. Health services include 3 medical centres, hospital, allied health services, specialist visits, healthy ageing program, home and community care and a retirement village. A variety of shopping is available with two large grocery stores - Foodworks and IGA, a great bakery and numerous coffee shopts.

A full range of lifestyle and sporting activities are available. Team sports - football of various codes, dragon boating and netball. Individual sports such as tennis, squash and golf. Horse sports - pony club, camp drafting and polocrosse are available.
